Microsoft used Xbox Games Showcase 2026 to make a statement about the future of Xbox, combining major first-party announcements, surprise reveals, third-party partnerships, and new hardware celebrating the platform’s 25th anniversary.

The showcase featured a packed lineup of upcoming releases, including new looks at Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, State of Decay 3, Clockwork Revolution, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, alongside the reveal of several brand-new titles.

Xbox Celebrates 25 Years with New Hardware

One of the biggest announcements outside of software was the reveal of the Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection.

Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console and Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition, both inspired by the original Xbox. The hardware features a translucent design and several nods to the platform’s history, celebrating the community that has supported Xbox over the last quarter-century.

The company also reiterated its commitment to console gaming, confirming that both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will launch as Xbox console exclusives rather than timed exclusives.

    First-Party Studios Take Center Stage

The showcase opened with a look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s revamped DMZ extraction experience ahead of the game’s October 23 launch. Players will take on high-risk missions in a dynamic combat sandbox where every encounter can impact the outcome of a deployment.

Xbox also shared a deeper look at Clockwork Revolution, the upcoming steampunk RPG from inXile Entertainment. The new trailer highlighted its time-bending mechanics, reactive storytelling, and the conflict between protagonist Morgan and the ruthless Lady Ironwood.

Meanwhile, id Software revealed DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, a new campaign expansion launching July 7 that introduces new levels, enemies, puzzles, and the powerful Chain Spear weapon.

Playground Games also confirmed that Fable will launch on February 23, 2027. The latest trailer introduced Hayley Atwell as Isabel, a powerful Hero whose search for answers has led her down a dark path, while also teasing the return of the iconic villain Jack of Blades.

Gears, Halo, and Minecraft Receive Major Updates

The Coalition finally delivered the first gameplay reveal for Gears of War: E-Day, showcasing the chaos of Emergence Day and the beginnings of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago’s partnership. The game launches on October 6, 2026, with an open beta scheduled for August.

Halo Studios confirmed Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch on July 28, 2026. The announcement included a first look at Operation: METEORITE, a new set of missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.

Minecraft fans also received a release date for Minecraft Dungeons II, which arrives on September 29 with new environments, enemies, and expanded customization options.

Elsewhere, Ninja Theory surprised viewers with Senua, a new action-adventure game set within the Hellblade universe that is scheduled to launch in 2027.

Xbox also revealed Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first original Spyro game in nearly two decades, and debuted the first gameplay trailer for State of Decay 3 ahead of its planned 2027 release.

Persona 6, Metro 2039, and More Partner Reveals

Third-party partners also had a strong presence throughout the event.

Atlus officially announced Persona 6 while also confirming that Persona 4 Revival will launch on February 18, 2027.

Fans also got their first gameplay look at Metro 2039, the next entry in 4A Games’ post-apocalyptic shooter franchise, which is currently targeting a February 2027 release.

Other notable reveals included Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, Magicians: The Devil’s Deal, Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, Valor Mortis, Vivarium, and Bad Magpie. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy also received a new gameplay trailer and an August 27 release date.

    Live-Service Games Receive New Content

Several ongoing Xbox titles also received updates.

Age of Empires IV is set to expand later this year with Raiders of the North, introducing the Vikings and Scots as playable civilizations.

The Elder Scrolls Online teased a new Thieves Guild storyline arriving in July, while Fallout 76 launched its free Infestations update.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 revealed new content focused on U.S. National Parks and National Championship Air Races, and Sea of Thieves announced Custom Seas, a new feature allowing players to create their own game modes beginning June 18.

A Showcase Focused on Xbox’s Future

Between major first-party releases, long-awaited sequels, brand-new franchises, and anniversary hardware, Xbox Games Showcase 2026 delivered one of Microsoft’s most ambitious games showcases in recent years.

With Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Persona 6, State of Decay 3, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, and many more titles on the horizon, Xbox made it clear that the next few years will be a significant period for the platform.
