The Dead of Night is one of Act 1’s main quests in Final Fantasy 16. After managing to fend Lostwing from the invaders, Clive and Cid plan to head directly to Caer Norvent to find out more about the Dominant of Fire.

FF16: The Dead of Night Walkthrough
This quest follows through after the fight against Benedikta’s familiar. While in Lostwing, you can take the time to recuperate and get some supplies for the fight in the upcoming quest.
The Dead of Night Objectives
- Speak with Quinten
- Gather information from the villagers
- Speak with Cid
- Speak with Quinten
- Make for Caer Norvent
- Enter Caer Norvent
Speak with Quinten
Head over to the marker to talk to Quinten. Before talking to him, you can take the time to check the stock of new items at the shopkeepers in the village.
Quinten will prepare some beds in the inn for Clive and Cid to rest for the night. He will also give you the Hanged Man Seal.
Gather information from the villagers
Talk to the two marked villagers to gather more information about the Dominant of Fire that may have passed through the village.
Speak with Cid
Go back to Cid and tell him about your findings about the suspected Dominant of Fire.
Speak with Quinten
Go back to Quinten, and he will ask for a favor in exchange for letting them sleep in the inn. After a short cutscene, the two get ready to finally head to Caer Norvent.
Make for Caer Norvent
Make it out of the village, then follow the marker down south. You will encounter some enemies along the path. Defeat all of them, and you will eventually arrive near the bridge leading to Caer Norvent.
Enter Caer Norvent
After finding the right moment to proceed, Clive and Cid make their way through the sewers of Caer Norvent. Select the Caer Norvent location on the map to continue.
A cutscene then plays showing a memory of Benedikta and Barnabas, but it gets interrupted when a guard alerts her about the two trespasser’s presence in their base.
