A couple of days ago, Bandai Namco announced that Super Robot Wars Y would be released this year for the major consoles. The latest announcement trailer revealed numerous new and returning mecha series that will be playable, and new stories will be made. This article will list what mecha anime series should also be added to the new SRW game.

Gridman Universe
In the last Super Robot Wars game, Gridman was added as one of the major titles to debut. Because of that, many mecha anime fans were very excited to use him and learn what kind of hero he is. Luckily, he recently received the box office screen titled “Gridman Universe”. This film became one of the most popular Toku-movies to debut on the box office, and fun fact, it featured not only Gridman, but also it showed how connected the story is to SSSS.Dynazenon.
A year has passed since the events of SSSS.Gridman. The world is at peace and no one except for Rikka and Utsumi remembers the kaiju, Gridman, or Akane Shinjou. This includes Yuuta, who, despite serving as Gridman’s host, has no memory of the most important moments of his life. So when a new Kaiju appears, he leaps at the chance to prove to himself that he, too can be the hero by merging with Gridman once more.

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom
Last year was an amazing year to be a Gundam Seed fan as the final chapter of the Seed series was shown on the box office. Gundam Seed Freedom is undoubtedly one of the must-have series to be added to Super Robot Wars Y. Featuring popular Gundam seed characters, Mobile Suits, and new storylines, this movie would be a great addition.
In C.E.75, the fighting still continues. There are independence movements and aggression by Blue Cosmos… In order to calm the situation, a global peace monitoring agency called COMPASS is established, with Lacus as its first president. As members of COMPASS, Kira and his comrades intervene in various regional battles. Then, a newly established nation called Foundation proposes a joint operation against a Blue Cosmos stronghold.

Grendizer U
From the popular 80s anime mecha series, Grendizer, a new remake of the mecha anime was released last year in Japan. This anime featured not only the power of the great robot Grendizer but also his alliance with one of Japan’s greatest heroes of all time, Mazinger. Adding this series to the SRW game will reignite many familiar moves that loyal mecha anime fans will love.
Duke Fleed is a survivor of the Fleed Planet who has escaped to Earth. Onboard a mysterious “spaceship,” he is raised by Dr. Umon as his adoptive son, and becomes known as Daisuke Umon. Years after his arrival, he’s faced with the threat of King Vega and his army, who want to conquer the Earth. Duke decides to fight back with his friends Koji and Hikaru and later his younger sister Maria Grace, using his best weapon – the almighty Grendizer.

Brave Bang Bravern!
Every SRW game must have at least 1 Brave series added to the game, and what better way to have the latest Brave anime, Brave Bang Bravern! This anime debuted on TV last year and has received a new collaboration with one of Japan’s popular TCG games, Cardfight Vanguard. Adding this series to the game will be pretty interesting and something to look forward to.
In a world where humanoid armored weapons known as “Titatonostrider” (“TS” for short) are used in warfare, troops from various countries converge on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, including Ao Isami of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and Lewis Smith of the United States Marine Corps. Isami and Smith cross paths during battle, but suddenly, their teams are attacked by an unknown enemy, scattering soldiers and sending their forces into disarray. In order to save their friends and survive on the deadly battlefield, they must fight with every ounce of courage and pride that they can muster.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
It is right to add Gundam G to Super Robot Wars Y, but they should add also Gundam Wing as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. In previous SRW titles, the Endless Waltz has always been used, but wouldn’t be better to use instead the TV series as it has such a rich storyline?
The United Earth Sphere Alliance is a powerful military organization that has ruled over Earth and space colonies with an iron fist for several decades. When the colonies proclaimed their opposition to this, their leader was assassinated. Now, in the year After Colony 195, bitter colonial rebels have launched “Operation Meteor,” sending five powerful mobile suits to Earth for vengeance. Built out of virtually indestructible material called Gundanium Alloy, these “Gundams” begin an assault against the Alliance and its sub organization OZ.
One Gundam, whose pilot has taken the name of the slain colony leader Heero Yuy, is forced to make a crash landing into the ocean after an atmospheric battle against OZ’s ace pilot Zechs Marquise. Upon coming ashore, he is found by Relena Peacecraft, daughter of a peace-seeking politician, who witnesses Heero’s descent to Earth. Although neither of them realize it yet, this encounter will have a profound impact on both their lives, as well as those on Earth and in space colonies.
Vandread
This popular anime title was featured in multiple networks in the early 2000s. Recently, Moderoid has announced that they will be making model kits featuring the Vandread and this will be quite adventurous and nostalgic to those who have love this series from the very start.
In Vandread, men are from Mars and women are from Venus! Well, not quite. Technology has allowed mankind to colonize the entire Milky Way galaxy, and in one star system, the men and women live on two different planets, Taraak and Mejere. A bitter and very literal gender war rages, to the point where they don’t even see each other as the sames species anymore!
Hibiki Tokai, a male third-class laborer from Taraak, ends up stuck on a battleship after a botched attempt at stealing a robot. When female pirates capture the Taraakian Vanguard, things don’t look like they could get any worse for Hibiki. Unfortunately, they do; when the male crew of the Vanguard fire on their captured vessel out of desperation, they created a giant wormhole, which sucks the Vanguard and the Mejeran pirate’s ships into itself! Now, stuck far away from their home planets, these men and women must learn to work together if they ever wish to make it back home.

Aldonah Zero
Aldonah Zero is one of the most hinge series of the early 2010s. This series will definitely become a good addition as it shows numerous battle scenes and brings out a different perspective of mecha combat warfare. With tons of drama and action, Aldonah Zero is a highly recommended title to be added in SRW Y.
The discovery of a hypergate on the Moon once allowed the human race to teleport to Mars. Those who chose to settle there unearthed a technology far more advanced than that of their home planet, which they named “Aldnoah.” This discovery led to the founding of the Vers Empire of Mars and a declaration of war against the “Terrans,” those who stayed behind on Earth. However, a battle on the moon—later called “Heaven’s Fall”—caused the hypergate to explode, destroying the moon and leading the two planets to establish an uneasy ceasefire.
Their peace was a fragile one, however. Fifteen years later, high school student Inaho Kaizuka witnesses the plotted assassination of the Vers Empire’s Princess Asseylum Vers Allusia, who had come to Earth in hopes of repairing the relationship between the empire and its homeland. The ceasefire is shattered, and the Martians declare war on the Terrans once again. In the face of this insurmountable enemy, Inaho and his friends must now fight against the Vers Empire to settle the war once and for all.

Ninja Senshi Tobikage
At the end of the announcement trailer of SRW Y, the developers revealed what would be the design of the original protagonist’s mecha. For some reason, the mecha design is a ninja robot that feels similar to that of the anime series Ninja Senshi Tobikage. This retro anime was considered an iconic series to those who have lived through the late 80s, and adding this series will have a very credible storyline.
Ninja Senshi Tobikage tells the story of a boy named Joe Maya. One day, Joe, who lives on Mars, witnesses a battle between aliens. Those from Planet Zaboom are attacking the princess of Planet Radorio, she has escaped from the emperor of Zaboom who is scheming to conquer the universe and has crash landed on mars.
Joe stumbles aboard the princesses ship, this starts a chain reaction of events that will alter their lives. Joe and his friends wield three powerful mecha beasts against the emperor of Zaboom and his forces, but the odds are stacked heavily against them. When all hope seems to be lost a mysterious ninja robot named Tobikage appears as if from nowhere to provide assitance, able to combine with the 3 mechanical beasts provides Tobikage with unmatched power, with his aide Joe fights the forces of Zaboom…

Aquarion Evol
Aquarion Evol is frankly one of my favorite mecha animes to be streamed online. The series is a sequel to Genesis Aquarion and there are a variety of mechs that can be found. It has been used before in previous SRW games and having it returned to SRW Y can have profound effect among gamers as well.
12,000 years after the events in Genesis Aquarion, humans live on the star Vega under constant threat of trans-dimensional beings called Abductors. These enemies originate from Vega’s sister star Altair and raid Vega for human life. As a countermeasure, an organization known as Neo-DEAVA formed to combat the Abductors. They pilot advanced mecha suits called Aquaria and are strictly separated by gender. Boys and girls are not allowed contact; they are even restrained from fighting on the same battlefield. However, events take a shocking turn when an advanced Abductor mecha suit joins the fray. Two teenagers, Mikono and Amata, are dragged into the conflict. Unknowingly, Amata performs a taboo when he summons an Aquaria and initializes what is called the Forbidden Union between male and female Aquaria. Neo-DEAVA is shocked, and the repercussions of Amata’s actions are much farther reaching than he realizes. How was he able to summon an Aquaria? Where did he learn to form a Forbidden Union? And why was Mikono also able to pilot the mecha suit?

Code Geass: Rose of Recapture
Code Geass: Lelouch of Resurrection was confirmed to be part of the roster for Super Robot Wars Y. However, another Code Geass anime has surfaced recently last year and was considered one of the best sequels to have after the movie. This anime was Code Geass: Rose of Recapture and not only does it feature new original characters, but also brought back iconic characters from the manga, anime, OVAs, and more.
After the supposed death of its 99th emperor, the Holy Britannian Empire broke up, and the areas it controlled finally regained their independence. While most joined the United Federation of Nations, a group aiming to create everlasting peace, remnants of the oppressive empire continue to exist. One such faction, Neo-Britannia, has taken over Japan’s Hokkaido island after killing its governor, Juugo Sumeragi.
The Seven Shining Stars, a resistance group in Hokkaido, finds itself at an impasse as it struggles to find a way to defeat the Neo-Britannian Empire. As a last resort, it enlists the aid of the Nameless Mercenaries: brothers Rozé, a genius strategist; and Ash, an exceptional Knightmare pilot. Though Rozé and Ash are Britannian, they have made a name for themselves by protecting the Japanese and killing the empire’s officials. With their help, the resistance may finally be able to recapture its territory and prevent another reign of terror.
