Pirate survival adventure Windrose is getting its first major content update, Ashlands, this winter, bringing new missions, factions, a ship, a challenging boss, and additional areas to explore.
Developer Kraken Express revealed the update during the Triple-i Initiative showcase on October 8, offering players their first look at the upcoming content through a new teaser trailer.
The announcement follows a strong early access debut for Windrose, which has reportedly sold over two million copies during its first month on PC.
Ashlands Expands the Pirate Adventure
The upcoming Ashlands update will introduce new main and side missions, giving players more adventures to tackle across the game’s expanding world.
Among the additions is a long-abandoned Spanish colony, one of several new areas players will be able to explore.
The update will also feature new factions, a new ship to command, and a challenging boss encounter.
Beyond the additional content, Kraken Express is working on improvements to combat, gameplay systems, and NPC behavior, although the developer has yet to detail the full extent of these changes.
Ashlands will be the first major content update for Windrose since its early access release, expanding the experience for both solo players and those sailing with friends.
Windrose Continues to Grow in Early Access
Set during the Age of Piracy, Windrose combines open-world exploration, survival mechanics, crafting, naval combat, and settlement building.
Players can sail between islands, engage enemy ships in cannon battles, board hostile vessels, recruit NPC crew members, and search for valuable treasures.
The game also allows players to move between their ships and settlements on land, developing their bases while preparing for further expeditions.
Windrose supports both solo and cooperative play, with its early access version already offering dozens of hours of content.
Kraken Express says development continues to be shaped by community feedback, with Ashlands representing the next major step in expanding the game.
Windrose: Ashlands is scheduled to arrive in winter 2026, although an exact release date has not been announced.
Windrose is currently available in early access on PC.
