Dying Light 2 will still come to PS4/XBO, says dev; Performance & Quality mode on next-gen versions

Dying Light 2 has been in development since 2016, but we’ve only gotten tidbits of updates from Techland, making us think that the highly-anticipated sequel might get axed. Fortunately, in 2018, the studio held a press conference, answering questions and thus revealing that Square Enix is going to distribute the game in North America and to drive its marketing campaign. However, on January 20, 2020, it was announced that the game is going to be delayed to give the studio time to finish and polish the game.

In a recent interview with Wccftech, Tomasz Szałkowski, Rendering Director from Techland, revealed that Dying Light 2 will still come to PS4 and Xbox One. The studio had a history of announcing a game to come out on previous-gen hardware, but then later decide to only launch the game on next-gen hardware.

The first Dying Light game was announced to launch on PS3 and Xbox 360, but the team over at Techland decided to focus on next-gen hardware, which during that time, it was the PS4 and Xbox One.

“The “main” consoles have long been our priority. We make every effort to ensure that the game’s quality on PS4 or XBO is at the highest level,” says Tomasz. “We started testing on the older generation consoles much earlier than in other projects. This was related to the scale of changes to the engine and ambitious plans to create an even larger and more complex game than DL1.”

With the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S’s beefy hardware, the developer was asked if there will be performance and quality modes. Tomasz said yes. “Yes. We plan to allow you to choose: Quality (including ray tracing), Performance (60+ FPS), and 4K. As we are working hard on performance, I cannot provide more details at this point. We try to cram as much as possible onto the next- gens.”

Dyling Light 2 is going to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S soon.
