Host Geoff Keighley recently shared new details of the upcoming The Game Awards 2021 event and the number of games to show up this year.
According to Keighley in his latest interview with Epic Games, the upcoming yearly awards night will now focus more on games and trailers this year. He revealed that fans will expect to see 40 to 50 games will be introduced during the event and will be more on the next-gen side.
“You know, it’s great to have celebrities, it’s great to have music, but I think focusing really on games is important,” Keighley said. “What we really learned last year was at the end of the day, it really is the games and the trailers that drive the show.”
Keighley stated that there might be new categories that will get added to the awards. He thinks that in next year, they will be able to add a best adaptation category to The Game Awards.
The host also revealed that among those 40 to 50 games that somehow will be shown on the awards night, there might be a lot of new games too and the number is going to be double digits.
“I still feel like we’ve only kind of sort of touched the surface of what’s possible on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, so I think you’ll see some stuff in the show that is truly pretty stunning,” Keighley said. “We’ll see footage of games that will remind people that the best of this industry is still to come.”
Keighley revealed that there might be a chance that they will expand the show and it will be on the metaverse. He also clarified that they are NOT into NFT.
The Game Awards will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 8 PM EST. The location will be at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
