A brief summary of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s story
The story begins through the eyes of the protagonist, an unnamed young Sarentu, as they are being raised inside the RDA’s The Ambassador Program or TAP. It is soon revealed that they were taken away from their families with the promise of being taken care of. Unbeknownst to them, John Mercer, the one who oversees the operation of the RDA, is planning to raise them through their human ways and turn them into RDA soldiers instead. An altercation with Mercer after their failed attempt to escape the facility has cost them one of their sisters.
Fast forward several years, and the Sarentu children have grown up. Because of the Resistance that was led by Jake Sully, the facility came under attack by the Na’vi. Alma, the RDA researcher who assumed the role of Sarentu’s caretaker, saved the Sarentu from Mercer’s execution order and hid them inside cryopods to be kept safe from the fighting.
Another time skip happens, and Alma manages to bring back all the Sarentu from their cryosleep. Alma has now joined the Resistance and has taken the Sarentu with them. After they have settled in, the Sarentu then decide to join the fight against Mercer’s forces, who have now constructed several facilities that take away Pandora’s resources.
Knowing that they alone would not be enough to fight against the Sky People, the Resistance has been trying hard to convince the other Na’vi clans to join them in the fight. Now that they have Sarentu with them, a clan that the other clans believed to have been wiped out, the Resistance now hopes that they have a better chance of convincing the clans again to become their allies.
The protagonist then took on the role of ambassador and went out to the nearby clans to convince them to join the Resistance. They then managed to convince the Aranahe, Zeswa, and the Kame’tire, all while fighting against the RDA through skirmishes and encounters.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Final Act and Ending
During the talks with Kame’tire, several crucial revelations were made. The tsahik of the Kame’tire carried the guilt for a long time, thinking that she caused the death of the Sarentu clan. However, it was then revealed that it was actually their clan’s de facto leader, Mokasa, who gave up the Sarentu’s location to the RDA in exchange for the safety of the Kame’tire.
Within this revelation, it was also brought to light that it was Alma who Mokasa talked to when he gave up Sarentu’s location. Because of this, one of the young Sarentu, Nor, stabs Alma out of anger. With her dying breath, she wants to let others see what the real truth is by connecting with them.
Through this, Alma reveals that she had good intentions of helping the Sarentu children through TAP, but Mercer kept his intentions from her and massacred the Sarentu when they got to the camp—all part of his plan to get rid of the Na’vi from their lands. It was only through the protagonist’s mother’s quick thinking that the Sarentu children were spared. After this revelation, Alma’s Na’vi body dies, but she still lives back in her human body.
Now that the Resistance has the full support of the other three Na’vi clans, they prepare their operation to infiltrate Mercer’s main facility and base and destroy it. However, the base is heavily guarded, with most of Mercer’s defenses on it now that they know that the Resistance is after them. The Resistance now plans to infiltrate the facility and destroy it from the inside instead of using their main drill.
The protagonist infiltrates an aerial defense station in the hopes that they can find anything that could help them get into the main base. As they arrive at the control room, they meet up once again with Teylan, who has decided to work with Mercer under the promise that no one else will get hurt. Teylan already knew that Mercer was just manipulating him, so he kept his ruse and continued to follow Mercer’s orders.
When Harding comes into the control room to take the protagonist out and call on Teylan, Teylan pounces on the protagonist to make it look like they got subdued, but he also hands over a flash drive before leaving with Harding. The protagonist then decides to retreat back to the Resistance base for now.
The protagonist then checks the contents of the drive and discovers that it contains the blueprints of Mercer’s main RDA facility, revealing to them that he is trying to help them from inside the RDA. The plans reveal that there is a system of caves that bypasses most of the facility’s defenses and leads straight into the facility itself.
The Resistance then sets off into the cave, led by the protagonist. The journey into the caves isn’t as easy as communication between the protagonist and the people at HQ gets cut off. Thankfully, Teylan helps out and manages to get the protagonist and the other Na’vi into the base.
The Na’vi warriors flood into the base as more of the perimeter gates get opened, forcing Harding and the remainder of her troops to desperately pull out of the fight as their numbers dwindle.
Mercer, however, does not want to leave, as he believes that he can still defeat all of the Na’vi once he manages to make the main drill operational. He seals himself in the impenetrable control room and warns everyone that the base will blow up with everyone in it and all the surrounding land around it once the drill charge is detonated.
The protagonist decides to head into the drill room and does their best to prevent the drill charge from being deployed. After successfully doing so, Mercer went on and tried to manually detonate the drill charge instead. Teylan suggests raising the drill charge above ground so that only the base will be destroyed and the caves underneath will be kept safe from collapsing, minimizing the destruction that the explosion will create.
The protagonist then warns everyone above ground to evacuate while they try to get Teylan out of the base as well. However, Teylan decides to stay and prevent Mercer from lowering the drill charge as a way to pay for his mistakes. The protagonist manages to get to the control room, only to find that Teylan has once again been persuaded to take Mercer’s side.
The protagonist gets pinned down, and as a final desperate move, they then sing out the song of the Sarentu in the hopes of reminding Teylan that he is still a Na’vi. This was enough to convince Teylan to go back to your side, free the protagonist, and pin Mercer to the wall. The two Sarentu then make their escape from the facility, with the protagonist almost unable to do so if not because of the close save by their ikran.
The Resistance reunites at a safe distance from the base as they watch the drill charge explode and take down the base with it. The Sarentu then reunite with Alma, who is happy that they got back together. However, Ri’nela and Teylan decided to move on from Alma’s guidance and company as they worked on rebuilding the Sarentu clan again. Alma accepts everyone’s decision as they bid each other farewell and go on their separate ways.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in the main Avatar continuity
Frontiers of Pandora’s first act during the evacuation happened around the time Jake Sully’s fight against the RDA was won in the first Avatar movie, causing John Mercer to pull out his forces from Pandora.
After the 16-year time skip, the protagonist and the rest of the Sarentu were woken up from their cryosleep by the Resistance. It was at this point that the humans returned to Pandora, which also aligns with the first part of the Way of the Water’s opening scene, although most of the game’s events happened roughly a year before most of the movie sequel’s events.
As for the planned DLCs of the game, they would appear to happen after the main events of the story, perhaps even happening along the events of the movie sequel. However, there’s not much to go for yet, whether or not we’ll see any of the game’s events or characters showing up or getting referenced in the upcoming third Avatar movie. The best we can hope for is that one of the DLCs will also introduce one of the clans that will be central to the third movie.
