Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Potentially Hinted

A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has just been teased by CD Projekt Red after the reveal of Phantom Liberty. A Cyberpunk 2077 sequel would certainly be a surprise considering the controversial launch and heated opinions of the game’s launch back in 2020. This article will discuss everything about the potential sequel for Cyberpunk 2077 as discussed by the Polish developers.

What Do We Know About a Potential Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel?

As of now, we don’t know much about a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077. Although CD Projekt Red has confirmed that they want to do more for the Cyberpunk IP further down the line. During a streamed results conference on Youtube, Michał Nowakowski makes it clear that they see the potential for more Cyberpunk related content.

“We decided to develop one major expansion for Cyberpunk which is going to take advantage of all the capabilities of the new-gen consoles. Having said that, we’re totally, fully committed to developing the Cyberpunk IP further, beyond this particular Cyberpunk expansion.” Nowakowski stated in the stream. “We’ve put a lot of effort and time into building this franchise and we definitely want to continue to build upon what was built right now—with new stories, new experiences, new content, basically. Not just the video game format. In terms of expansions, there’s just going to be one major expansion. However, there’s going to be new stuff in the future.”

With the development of Phantom Liberty only being for the current-gen consoles, it’s a safe bet to say that any planned Cyberpunk 2077 sequel isn’t going to include the PS4 and Xbox One. It seems CD Projekt Red is fully committed to the latest generation of consoles to push the Cyberpunk IP further.

Phantom Liberty Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel

It’s never outright confirmed if a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is even in the works. We’ll have to wait for any further announcements if CD Projekt Red is ready to tackle Night City once again. That may have to wait considering that these Polish-based developers are currently busy working on Witcher 4 and juggling to IPs at the same time might not seem like the best idea.

For now Phantom Liberty is to be the only expansion planned for the Cyberpunk 2077. After the Edgerunners update, we began to see more positive reception for the game. Whatever CD Projekt Red has in store for the Cyberpunk IP is going to be something to look forward to.
