It’s that time of the year again in Cebu where otakus and gamers alike gather for Anime Rpg Comics Hobbies Convention (ARCHCON). October 28, 2017 marks the first day and with it, are cosplayers who signed up to be the best in the event. Only three were chosen out of the many.
Second runner-up: Arjay Acayan
Chun-Li, Street Fighter series
Her finess and her grace as she moved to the theme song made me ask the person beside me: is she a martial artist? Neither of us knows, but if she isn’t, then Arjay’s cosplaying is on point.
First runner-up: Christine Joy Soliano
Yoshino, Date a Live
Kyut kyut kyuuuut. Her ventriloquism is so kawaaaiii. So is her voice and her green overalls. Can i keep heeeer? No? Okay. ? Seriously though, her characterization on Yoshino is amazing. Especially the way she throws her voice to that bunny hand puppet.
Champion: Joshua Joseph Magtuba
Kaito Kid, Detectivr Conan
Charmed were the audience with his magic tricks. Girls were shreiking because of his overflowing charisma. Oh, did I already mention he did a magic show? He deserves his championship award.
Most of the cosplayers put on amazing performances and given the chance to add another two to the already award-winning top 3, I would add these honorable mentions:
Honorable mention: Shawnn Villaflor
Chirrut Imwe, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
He got the look right, he also got the feel right. Plus, Shawnn moved his bi stick like he owned it! It’s as if he’s actually used it to navigate. You know, like how Chirrut does in the movie. Because he’s blind.
Honorable mention: Rex (RicaDiva) Rosales
Wonder Woman, Justice League
RicaDiva ACTUALLY did a cartwheel! Her production was reaaally good. Unfortunately her performance was cut short due to technical issues. Just as the moment got really good. She even whipped out her lasso of truth. What the audience didn’t get to see is how that lasso lit up (this happened when she exited).
The Top three winners are from Ormoc, Leyte. Joshua Joseph Magtuba (Kaito Kid) said that it’s his dream to join cosplay events outside his province. Keep inspiring, Kaito Kid! 🙂
