Destiny 2 Vouchsafe God Roll: Best PvP & PvE Perks

Reprised version of a Dreaming City classic

The Vouchsafe is a Void lightweight frame scout rifle from the reprised Dreaming City weapon set. When this weapon first came out, one of the few reasons to get this gun was for Explosive Payload. It’s still the case now in Season 23 of Destiny 2. However, the new perk pool expands what it is capable of within PvE activities.

If you were a New Light from at least a few years back, you will find some striking similarities to the Night Watch scout rifle. They were both lightweight frames and without Origin Traits. The reprised version of the Vouchsafe is a real step up from its initial release version. The gun may have more usage in PvE, but that doesn’t mean that it is lacking in PvP. It has a solid roll that becomes all the more impactful due to it being a lightweight scout.

How to get Vouchsafe in Destiny 2

To get the Vouchsafe, you’ll have to take part in Season of the Wish activities. It is not a guarantee, however, as the rewards from sets often contain weapons from the Wish and Undying sets. You are almost guaranteed a Dreaming City weapon from the hidden chest inside the corridor section of the Coil activity. You need only collect enough glass shards from pots and enemies to unlock the side chamber that contains the secret chest. Equipping a treasure finder Ghost mod will help narrow down the chamber’s location. And watch out for trapped chests. They hurt a lot.

At one point in the many years of Destiny 2, the only way to get the Vouchsafe, and other weapons from the set, was to take part in activities around the Dreaming City. In the Witch Queen expansion, you had the option to focus decode weapons from the set in the H.E.L.M. using Dreaming City Engrams. (If I remember correctly.) But that’s no longer the case in the year of Lightfall.

Best Vouchsafe PvP God Roll

  • 1st Column: Polygonal Rifling (Fluted Barrel as an option)
  • 2nd Column: Steady Rounds
  • Stability Masterwork
  • Freehand Grip
  • Rapid Hit + Explosive Payload

The focus of this god roll is the perk Explosive Payload. If you don’t know, the perk creates a small explosion at the point of impact. You are essentially double-dipping on damage to defeat opposing Guardians quickly. You’ll also see that I don’t put much stock in the range stat. That’s because the explosions are not affected by damage falloff, unlike bullets. In other words, Vouchsafe has a near-infinite range with the perk on. Also, the splash damage from the explosions is good for flushing enemies out of cover.

Since it’s a lightweight frame, you don’t need to invest much in Handling. But if it still feels slugging, you can always try a roll with Fluted Barrel. For a gun with a fire rate such as this, it’s a good idea to invest in the Stability stat as much as you can. Range can help you bring up base damage numbers but at that point, there’s no reason to run Explosive Payload.

If you are not interested in running Explosive Payload, Dragonfly and Golden Tricorn are good alternatives.

Best Vouchsafe PvE God Rolls

  • 1st Column: Smallbore
  • 2nd Column: Flared Magwell
  • Reload Speed Masterwork
  • Backup Mag Mod
  • Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing Rounds
  • Repulsor Brace + Golden Tricorn
  • Fourth Time’s The Charm + Explosive Payload

The go-to combo for PvE is going to be Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing Rounds. You can keep kill-chaining to get the benefits of a Void Overshield without being a Void subclass. It should be noted that Destabilizing Rounds has a short invisible cooldown to it. From what I’ve noticed, you won’t be able to immediately make other targets Volatile after defeating the initial target. If that’s the case, you can focus on volatile targets to get an Overshield before turning on the next target for Destabilizing Rounds.

The Golden Tricorn roll, which also appears on Void weapons like the Optative hand cannon, is best used in tandem with a Void subclass. Particularly, Void Hunter with Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk. It is an effective kill-chaining combo. The Vouchsafe simply adds more range to the loop.

The Fourth Time’s the Charm roll is more for boss damage. For this one, you don’t need magazines that add more bullets. The hard cap is 20 and that’s 1-2 bullets with Backup Mag equipped. You won’t be inflicting outrageous damage numbers, just a constant stream of chimp damage throughout the whole damage phase.

How good is the Vouchsafe?

I have to admit, the original Vouchsafe had more interesting rolls to it. It’s not every day that you can get your hands on a Killing Wind + Explosive Payload roll. You can’t get that anymore with the reprised version. That pretty much sums up the entirety of the Dreaming City weapon set. You remove a bit of bloat so that the weapon is more focused on what it should do. The reduced perk pool also cuts down on farming for god rolls. Something I am grateful for.

All in all, the Vouchsafe is more focused than it has ever been. It may be less fun in its later years but it is more reliable now.

These are the Vouchsafe base stats before any perks are applied:

  • Impact: 60
  • Range: 33
  • Stability: 32
  • Handling: 63
  • Reload Speed: 55
  • Zoom: 20
  • Rounds Per Minute: 200
  • Magazine: 16

The Vouchsafe’s perk pool is probably one of the deepest among the Dreaming City weapons. You can easily find a good combo that fits your exact play style. Right now, I don’t recommend Attrition Orbs for higher-level content especially when lightweight frames don’t inflict the most damage as they are.

3rd Column Perks

  • Rapid Hit
  • Fourth Time’s The Charm
  • Outlaw
  • Repulsor Brace
  • Stats For All
  • Moving Target

4th Column Perks

  • Explosive Payload
  • Dragonfly
  • Golden Tricorn
  • Destabilizing Rounds
  • Attrition Orbs
  • Collective Action

And that’s everything I’ve got for this Vouchsafe god roll guide. I’m pretty sure that I’m only scratching the surface with the good rolls for this weapon. There are a lot of moves you can do with reload and damage perks. The problem is getting the right rolls to drop from activities. It’s not easy to experiment when you can’t even focus decode them as a vendor. But I suppose that’s another reason for us to go back through the Coil for another run. Good luck and have fun out there, Guardians.
