Epic Games has recently announced that it will add age ratings for all Fortnite user-created content.
Starting on November 14, 2023, Epic Games will finally add age ratings for all Fortnite experiences. This is to ensure the player’s safety when they play the game company’s popular battle royale game.
The company specifies that the new system will include “all first and third-party playable content” in the game. The age ratings will be used to examine and issue a rating to all content created with the game’s Creative mode.
It was revealed that the new system was part of a new partnership Epic Games formed with the International Age Rating Coalition. The IARC is an initiative that would work with rating boards and that includes the ESRB or the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
When the creator is ready to publish their island into the game, they will have to fill out an IARC content rating questionnaire. They then must submit their island to Epic moderators who will review and publish the content if it passes their standards.
After completing the questionnaire, an age-based rating will be issued automatically to the creator’s island. Epic Games will have the rating region-specific with participating rating boards having the authority to alter one or more of the ratings assigned based on the review after the island got published.
