Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy XVI development is now at its final stages.
Final Fantasy XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida recently shared this new information about the current state of the game’s development in the Final Fantasy 35th Anniversary Uniqlo magazine according to Twitter user aitaikimochi. He revealed that the story is now “a very well fleshed out one.”
The new development could mean a few possibilities. One would be development would be just a few adjustments or tweaks to the game and no major development could be underway. This could mean we could be getting an official release date anytime soon. Another possibility would be new footage, possibly a new trailer from the game, maybe extensive gameplay could be shown. Square Enix usually does not show any early gameplay footage to the public though, so the chances for this to happen is slim.
According to the translation made by aitaikimochi, Yoshida and his team is hoping to “deliver a comprehensive game full of story and gameplay.” He differentiates the game from online games like FFXIV as this one offers a different experience where it focuses on the individual player and immerses you in the story. He also wishes that this game would bring back fans who have drifted away from the Final Fantasy franchise.
Final Fantasy XVI is still in development for PS5.
