This pit road is narrow and curved, requiring drivers to carefully stay within the white lines to avoid penalties.

“Gassho-style Houses in Ainokura” and “Cherry Blossoms at Night” in Scapes

World Heritage Site: Gassho-style Houses in Ainokura

The Gokayama region in Toyama Prefecture is known for its gassho-style houses, remnants of an ancient style of Japanese architecture. Twenty of these houses remain in Ainokura village, keeping the old mountain lifestyle alive in the present day. In 1995, the gassho-style villages of Gokayama and the Shirakawa region in Gifu Prefecture were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Araiyakushi-mae “Cherry Blossoms at Night”

Araiyakushi-mae Station is located a few kilometers to the northwest of Shinjuku. The station was named after a nearby temple, Araiyakushi Baishoin, which stands to the southwest. To the west of the station is Nakano-dori, a street lined by cherry blossom trees. Visitors flock here in early spring, hoping to capture a shot of a train passing through the blossoms.
