In the Shadow of Fate is a side quest in Sebastian Sallow’s relationship quests in Hogwarts Legacy. After the events in the catacomb, Sebastian is remorseful for taking his uncle’s life which drove his sister away from him. Now, his best friend Ominis and his sister are thinking of turning him in for his deed.
This guide will lead into the path of learning the three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy. Read ahead as we go through the steps on how to complete these quests and get to the choices that will lead to these curses.
How to unlock In the Shadow of Fate Relationship Quest
To unlock the In the Shadow of Fate Relationship Quest, you must first complete the In the Shadow of the Relic Relationship Quest.

- Meet Sebastian in the Undercroft
- Speak with Ominis
In the Shadow of Fate relationship quest Walkthrough
After completing the required quest, this quest should be updated in your log and you should be able to go to the Undercroft to start it.
Meet Sebastian in the Undercroft
Make your way back to the Undercroft to talk to Sebastian. As you arrive, you’ll see Sebastian and Ominis arguing about what happened and how he happened upon Anne after the altercation in the catacombs. After their conversation, you can approach Sebastian and talk to him. He’ll then ask you to talk to Ominis to help him understand about what happened.
Speak with Ominis
Next, speak to Ominis. At this point, you’ll be given the choice whether or not you should turn in Sebastian for what he has done. Your choice will determine Sebastian’s involvement throughout the game moving forward.
If you decide to not turn in Sebastian, he will be thankful and will remain in Hogwarts for the rest of your gameplay.
If you decide to turn in Sebastian, he will be expelled from Hogwarts and will be tried by the Ministry of Magic. He will be replaced by Ominis in the scenes that would involve him if he was not turned in, such as in his side quest In the Shadow of Friendship, or in the revelation of who cast the curse on Anne.
Both options will be available to you regardless if you have learned any, all, or none of the Unforgivable Curses. However, turning in Sebastian will lock you out from learning any of the curses after this quest as Sebastian is the only one who can teach them to you in the base game.
Other than Sebastian’s presence or absence, the dialogues from the characters closely involved, and the second chance to learn the Unforgivable Curses, this decision will not affect any other parts of the game.
