How to Fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Fishing is just one of the activities that players can do in Dreamlight Valley, and one that is very chill and quite profitable, too. The fishing mechanic is just a bit different that in most simulation games, but the technique is quite easy to master and the fishes are forgiving.

In this guide, we will be talking about the fishing mechanic in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and share some tips and tricks on how to master it quickly.

Where to get the Fishing Rod

The Fishing Rod can be found inside Mickey Mouse’s house, just across your starting house. Once obtained, it can be used near a pond or near the sea and it can be accessed easily from your radial toolbar.

How to Fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley

First, you will have to have your fishing rod as your active tool, and then head to a body of water like a pond in the Meadows or at sea on the Beach.

    Step 1: Find ripples

You will see some ripples in the water which will indicate that you can catch fishes from here. These ripples are usually white in color, but they can show up as blue and gold, indicating that there are rare fishes that are currently making those ripples.

    Step 2: Cast your line

The next step is to aim for these ripples and cast your line on them. Depending on which platform you are playing on, it may or may not be easy to find a spot where to cast. Our recommendation is to approach the ripples according to the cardinal directions, like towards north or towards the east; aiming diagonally can be quite a challenge. Alternatively, if your line lands outside a ripple, you will still have a small chance of getting a fish, but you will most likely get other items instead, like seaweed.

Holding the cast button will make the cast marker appear and move from your position and towards the direction that you are facing. Let go of the button once the marker is at the target to cast your line.

Step 3: Wait for a bite

Once the bait has been set, wait for a fish to take the bait. You will know that you got a bite when the water splashes, after which you should immediately reel in the line.

Step 4: Reel in your line

A reeling minigame will then start. A thin ring will appear around the thick ring where your line is. The thin ring will then shrink towards the thick ring. Once the two rings touch, the rings will turn green, which is your signal to pull on the line. This will happen around 2-4 times depending on the rarity of the ripple, with each time the thin ring will start closer and closer to the thick ring.

If you are successful with all the pulls, you will then capture the fish. Otherwise, you can try again as the ripple will still be present (retaining its rarity) until the fish is captured. You can fish indefinitely as long as you have enough energy. If your inventory is full upon catching a fish, you will have the opportunity to empty a slot to keep the fish.

    Fishing Notes

Caught fishes can be sold over at Goofy’s stall, but to get more value out of them, you can cook the fish in any dish that requires one and then sell the dish to Goofy. This is one of the great ways of earning money in early parts of the game.
