The official PlayStation Youtube channel just dropped a hype reel for the upcoming games in 2024. Surprisingly, the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake (otherwise known as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater) was featured as one of the games to look forward to for this year.

Konami has been relatively quiet about when we can expect the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake to release. So nobody was expecting PlayStation to just confirm a release window for them. While the hype reel didn’t explicitly state out a specific date, now we know that Konami is expecting the game to come out sometime this year.

It’s very likely that we’ll get more information from Konami themselves later down the line. Metal Gear Solid 3 is an important game in the industry and everyone is eager to hear what Konami is doing with it. Even those that don’t like that Kojima isn’t part of the game’s development.

Konami themselves are yet to confirm this release window but it’s unlikely that someone at PlayStation made a mistake. Considering that the Silent Hill 2 Remake is also coming out on 2024 according to the hype reel and slated to be a timed exclusive for the PS5 before moving on to other platforms, Sony wouldn’t hesitate to hype any upcoming Konami games.

While it seems to have been a long time since the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake was announced, it was only a year ago when it was officially confirmed. There were reports that it was being developed as far back as 2021 so we have some assurance that it isn’t going to be a rushed release.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Platforms

Out of all the Metal Gear Solid titles to choose from, Snake Eater feels like the one Konami didn’t really need to remake. However it also offers a standalone storyline that can be easily digested without having to play any of the previous Metal Gears, save for Metal Gear Solid 1. It’s also a beloved classic so it’s sure to get a lot of attention.

It would probably have been harder to remake Metal Gear Solid 2, even if the plot has never been more relevant now. While the themes more than stood up the test of time, the gameplay mechanics would’ve felt a bit dated that Konami would’ve had to change the core itself and risk ruining the entire thing.

The term “Delta” from Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater means change or difference without altering the structure itself. While the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake will definitely get a fresh code of paint thanks to Unreal Engine 5, most of its familiar gameplay which still holds the test of time should remain as is.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary for Metal Gear Solid 3 so it would make sense for Konami to schedule a release this year. Though we’ll likely have to wait for more information later down this year.
