New Witcher Project Game Director Promises No Crunch in Development

No crunch and will take their time.

The game director of the newly announced Witcher game has promised fans that there will be no crunch this time around in development.

After the bad launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and the rumors surrounding crunch time during its development, this new announcement of a new Witcher game was a breath of fresh air for fans. It gave them hope that a new game of the year title is about to be delivered in the future and this time around, CD Projekt RED will be in their element. The Witcher franchise is their bread and butter, so it would be natural that they will do well in this new title.

This has also made fans worried since the development of Cyberpunk 2077 was riddled with problems and crunch time. Crunch happens whenever a studio gets pressured before their promised launch date of their game. They make the tough decision of pushing their staff too hard until they could deliver a working game on release date, which in the case of CDPR got them into trouble and scorn from fans after Cyberpunk 2077 was released with so many bugs.

One fan mentioned this when quoting Game Director Jason Slama when he announced the new Witcher game. Slama quickly replied though stating that it will not happen, “Never on my watch!” he specifically replied.

If Slama’s statement is true, then expect the launch of this new Witcher game to be far off since it seems CDPR wants to take a lot of time in development, especially since they are going to use the newest Unreal Engine 5 as its game engine. Their original game engine, REDengine had some iterations, but it did not do well with Cyberpunk 2077. With Unreal Engine 5, it could be a game changer for them.

The new Witcher game is currently in development with no specific release date announced.
