In today’s State of Unreal 2022 presentation, Crystal Dynamics has announced a new Tomb Raider game. While there is no official word on the platform, release date, or even vague description of the upcoming game, we do know that the game will be powered by Unreal 5.

Crystal Dynamics is incredibly excited about the future of Unreal and how it will help us take our storytelling to the next level. That's why we're proud to announce that our next #tombraider game is being built on Unreal Engine 5! pic.twitter.com/UFMiWzJAZc

“Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the launch of Unreal Engine 5. This new engine translates into next-level storytelling in gameplay experiences,” said Crystal Dynamics during the presentation.

“And that’s why we are thrilled to announce today that we have just started development of our next Tomb Raider game powered by Unreal Engine 5. Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise.”

They closed the announcement by telling everyone that they can’t wait to take this journey together with us before congratulating the Epic Games team.

This next Tomb Raider game will be the first new mainline game since Shadow of the Tomb Raider released back in 2018. Currently, Crystal Dynamics is currently working on new Marvel’s Avengers content and Perfect Dark. Should Perfect Dark be at the forefront of their effort, we might have to wait a little longer before we can take part in Laura Croft’s next outing.
