Nintendo has officially announced its recent acquisition of its long-time development partner SRD Co. Ltd.

While the other big two game companies have already been acquiring studios left and right, it is only Nintendo that has not been joining the acquisition frenzy. It seems they are just taking their time and when the opportunity presents itself, they acquire one and SRD is the second studio purchase in just over a year.

No word on the sum for the acquisition of this Tokyo-based studio. SRD Co. Ltd. Will be part of Nintendo this coming April 1, 2022.

SRD has been a partner with Nintendo for a long time now and have development several games. These games include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart Tour for mobile.

Actually, SRD’s partnership with Nintendo goes back decades. They were partners in the NES days making titles like Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros.

So far, there has been no other announcement of another studio being acquired by Nintendo.
