Security Software Company Denuvo has recently announced that Denuvo Security is now available on Nintendo Switch.
Switch developers can now opt for Denuvo Security if they want to as the protection tech has been added to the handheld console. The company reveals it is the first security partner to be added to the Nintendo Developer Portal. Studios can now access tools and documentation while developing Switch games.
According to the announcement, the first of the tools Denuvo offers to Switch developers is the Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection. It is a “revolutionary technology to protect games launching on Nintendo Switch from piracy.” This is a new technology that can be applied to games to block it from playing on PC emulators.
“Even if a game is protected against piracy on its PC version, the version released on Nintendo Switch can be emulated from day one and played on PC, therefore bypassing the strong protections offered on the PC version,” the company said. “This can happen with any of the numerous games available on Nintendo Switch.
“By blocking unauthorized emulations on PC, studios are able to increase their revenue during the game launch window, which is the most important period for monetization. The Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wishing to play the game has to buy a legitimate copy.
“As with all other Denuvo solutions, the technology integrates seamlessly into the build toolchain with no impact on the gaming experience. It then allows for the insertion of checks into the code, which blocks gameplay on emulators.”
Nintendo has been trying its best to prevent Switch emulation on PC for a long while now. It has been a arduous battle between the company against the ones who pirate the games to be playable on PC. A few months ago, it issued multiple DMCA takedown requests to GitHub to remove a specific software, Lockpick. It is a particular homebrew tool that can make it possible to play Switch games on PC.
