The team behind the development of Overwatch 2 is considering adding a brand new transgender hero in the near future.
Overwatch 2 Celebrates Pride Month
Pride month has started today and Overwatch 2 has started its celebration with its global Pride event. Just recently, it revealed its multiple queer heroes and two of them were confirmed for the first time. These two heroes are Baptiste and Pharah who even got their own short film that makes it clear that they are part of the LGBTQ community.
The event has also introduced some awesome freebie cosmetics that are now available to download starting today like Name Cards, Player Icons, and more. There were some maps that got updated too to celebrate the whole month’s event.
New Transgender Hero in the Future
Blizzard seems to have new ideas for its upcoming content though. In a recent interview with Dexerto, the developers confirmed that they are considering adding a new transgender hero or reworking existing characters and reintroducing them as transgender.
Jen Stacey, Blizzard’s Senior Narrative Designer, was the one who wrote the short film ‘As You Are’ for Overwatch’s first Pride event. She said that the developers are constantly thinking about new ways to add more representation to the game. She revealed that this has been one of the many topics that their team members are talking about and it is something that means a lot to them.
Stacey also teased that they were discussing adding trans characters to the game, but she did not share too many details. One thing is for certain: there are plans in the making.
“No hero that we’re creating in Overwatch that’s upcoming is created just to check a box. We’re creating them to tell a story,” she explained.
Overwatch 2 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
