    PlayStation Awards 2016 Winners Announcement

Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan held its annual exclusive game awards, the PlayStation Awards 2016, for PlayStation’s games today to award those titles that have had great sales performances in Asia and Japan. Since the first PlayStation was launched in 1994, Sony had held this annual awarding ceremony every year to recognize these games — may it be multiplatform or exclusives — with its excellent performance throughout the platform.

To give credit and honor to the game developers, titles that have reached accumulatively (or more than) 500,000 units shipped and downloads received the “Gold Prize” award. Three games that had best sales through PlayStation Network (PSN) was awarded with the “PlayStation Network Award”. And lastly, the “User’s Choice Award” was awarded to 10 titles that got the most number of votes from the players.

This year, Sony has included 2 new categories: the “PlayStation VR Special Award” and the “Indie Special Award”. With the rise of indie games and PSVR titles this year, it’s a great decision from Sony to have these separate awards from the big titles. The PlayStation Special Award was given to 5 PSVR games that contributed a lot in the launching of the VR headset in Asia and Japan. And the Indie Special Award was handed to 5 indie titles which contributed to PlayStation’s games lineup.

Together with the PlayStation Awards 2016, starting from 14th December, 2016 (Wednesday), PlayStation Awards 2016 winning titles campaigns will be held on PlayStation Store (PS Store). In Hong Kong and the Southeast Asia region, a special page will be set up on PS Store to introduce the winning titles. What’s more, PS4 users who download the winning titles between 13th December and 19th December will receive a PlayStation Network Prepaid Value as rebate.
