The Highly Anticipated PS4 Exclusives Of 2018 (So far)

The PlayStation brand has delivered the most exciting and jaw-dropping exclusives since last year. Remember Horizon: Zero Dawn from Guerilla Games? They managed to get the RPG formula right and everyone is already waiting for its sequel. Another? Naughty Dog’s spin-off of their Uncharted franchise, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Putting Nathan Drake aside from the spotlight, Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross showed an exceptional chemistry as a duo that fans loved. We even got a taste of a Souls-like action RPG from Team Ninja that is set in Japan, NiOh. And the most beloved NieR: Automata from PlatinumGames and Atlus’ Persona 5 have pushed the character development to new heights that every gamer began to love.

2017 was the year of games and as we continue to live in these virtual worlds we call video-games, 2018’s PS4 exclusive lineup is definitely massive. This year opened with Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT, The Inpatient, and Shadow of the Colossus, with the latter getting the highest scores (and the first game to get 10/10 from our reviews team), we are quite hopeful for Supermassive Games’ next virtual-reality game exclusively for PlayStation VR, Bravo Team, on March 6. The first-person cover-based shooter does have its own quirks especially with the PlayStation VR Aim, and the good thing is that it doesn’t leave out PSVR owners who don’t own the Aim Controller as they can still use the DualShock 4 to play – but definitely, playing Bravo Team with the PSVR Aim Controller does add the immersion.

Further down the list in March, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom will launch to both PS4 and PC on March 23 – while it’s not entirely a PS4 exclusive, it’s rather identified as a PS4-console exclusive. The game is said to have fast-paced combat, and the story follows the adventures of the cat tribe’s boy king, Evan Pettiwhisker, set out to reclaim his kingdom. We do have a PSVR exclusive titled Golem from Highwire Games also launching in March though (March 18, specifically), however, its mixed reception from the community didn’t make it to this but it’s something worth noting as it does look promising in a way.

God of War and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will come out in April – April 20 and April 17 respectively.  SIE Santa Monica Studio’s sequel to the God of War franchise takes Kratos to the Norse mythology. Setting out to be a dad after many years since the destruction of Zeus, he takes his son Atreus to an adventure that would lead them to fight ferocious monsters and deadly warriors. Considering that it’s not named as God of War 4, just the title “God of War puts that “reboot” tag into play as the studio already ditched the hack n’ slash mechanics to have a more cinematic approach and that players can emotionally connect with Kratos. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, on the other hand, continues after 4 years of Yakuza 5’s events. Players will still take control of Kazuma Kiryu in an open-world third-person gameplay. Finally! After 3 years, we finally get a proper sequel to Yakuza 5.

The games mentioned above have a set release date. However, these are the games that are expected to launch this year (hopefully won’t get the “delay” treatment) that we’re all excited for: Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human, Bend Studios’ Days Gone, and Media Molecule’s Dreams.

So let’s go back to the list, shall we?

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
