QuakeCon 2020 Now Canceled Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

Quake 3

Event QuakeCon 2020 will not be happening this year according to game companies Bethesda and id Software due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

QuakeCon 2020 not happening

This was supposed to be the 25th annual event for the popular first person shooter franchise, but now due to some uncertainties surrounding the pandemic happening around the world, it will not happen. Both companies would want to prioritize the health and safety of their employees and the fans who were supposed to attend.

Bethesda and id Software both released an announcement talking about the cancellation. They know that the franchise has made bonds with friends and the gaming community as a whole. It would have been amazing because it has been a quarter-century, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they did not want to risk it.

The pandemic might not be ending anytime soon and they want everyone to be safe to enjoy the game in another time. They also know that it would not be possible to complete the work with these conditions happening, so it was best to cancel it. They thanked everyone and especially the volunteers for their hard work. They are still hoping next year would be better.

The event was supposed to happen on August 6-9.
