A new report suggest that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S sales are about the same as the PS4 and Xbox one when it first launched.
The report comes from Ampere Analysis and claims that the new-gen console sales have not sold more than the old-gen consoles. The reason would be due to its supply issues. They revealed that Xbox Series X/S sold 2.8 million, which is just behind the Xbox One’s launch sales of 2.9 million units.
Compared to Microsoft’s consoles, the PS5 has sold 4.5 million units. This is just ahead a bit of its predecessor, which got around 4.2 million during its launch in 2013.
The analysts claimed that the PS5 would have sold more units if it had gotten to more people. They are currently expecting that it will gain more sales by the end of March 2021 with speculations between 7.6 million and 8 million units.
For the Xbox side, Microsoft is more focused on revenue gained through Xbox Game Pass, player engagement and PC instead of just going for the hardware sales. They are even going for mobile.
