In Resident Evil 4 Remake, Chapter 3 concludes with a thrilling battle against this monstrous creature known as Del Lago. This lake monster drags Leon’s boat and poses a significant threat to his mission. Before facing this formidable boss, Leon must reach the boathouse and obtain the necessary fuel. Once the fuel is obtained, Leon returns to the lower grounds of the quarry, where he faces the daunting task of defeating the lake monster.
How to defeat Del Lago in Resident Evil 4 Remake
The Resident Evil 4 Del Lago boss fight only has one phase, keep these tips in mind to easily defeat Del Lago:
- Use the boat’s harpoons to inflict as much damage as possible on the lake monster as it pulls you along in the water.
- Aim your harpoon before throwing it, but be aware that Del Lago moves quickly, so aim slightly to the left or right to increase your chances of hitting it.
- Wait for Del Lago to expose enough of its body before throwing the harpoon to ensure you get a strike.
- Avoid hitting floating obstacles, or your boat’s health will go down. If your boat loses all its health, Leon will die, and you’ll have to start the fight again.
- Keep the boat moving to the left or right to automatically dodge Del Lago’s surprise lunge attack.
- Hit Del Lago in the head or mouth when it turns and rushes toward you with its mouth open to stop it from swallowing you whole.
- Dodge incoming debris to avoid getting knocked into the water.
- Hit Del Lago when it’s jumping in and out of the water in its diving loop to speed up the boss fight.
- Aim slightly higher than you think you should when Del Lago is far away to help you land a hit from afar.
- Continue using harpoons until you defeat Del Lago.
- Once you hit Del Lago around 12-15 times with your harpoons, it will die.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Del Lago Boss Fight Walkthrough
Once you reach the village lake, Leon will spot two Ganados on a boat disposing of a police’s body into the lake for Del Lago to feed on. After this, you’ll gain control again; check out the cabin nearby for some herbs and ammo first before heading to the dock. Once you are ready, get on the boat and ride off into the lake to trigger the boss’ cutscene. Del Lago will attack your boat, making its anchor latch onto its back, dragging your boat along with it.
You don’t have to bother using your guns as you will be using spears against Del Lago instead. Aim towards the boss and once you see a reticle, throw your spear to deal damage to the boss. You can still throw your spear and hit the boss even if it is just below the surface. Also, you have unlimited spears, so no worries if you miss a couple of throws.
Del Lago will retaliate and hit your boat, causing you to fall into the water. Prepare to button mash as you will need to swim back to your boat as fast as possible before the boss catches up to you.
Sometimes, Del Lago will swim deeper, making your boat stop moving. Prepare your spear and pay attention to the red arrow that will appear on the side of the screen. Quickly turn to its direction to see the boss swimming directly in your direction. Use this moment to land around two to three hits on its mouth before it reaches your boat. The boss should go down after landing around ten hits, but it’s not over yet.
Prepare for another button mashing as the rope of the anchor gets caught on Leon’s leg and he is about to get pulled into the depths of the lake. Mash the button to cut the rope and set Leon free. After a short cutscene, you will complete the chapter.
Rewards for defeating Del Lago
Killing Del Lago will conclude Chapter 3 and unlock the bronze Harpoon Hurler Trophy. You’ll also be able to explore the lake area without getting eaten once Del Lago is defeated.
