Krosse Cave is one of the dungeons in Star Ocean: The Second Story R. After meeting Celine in Krosse City and agreeing to help her in her quest, the two set off into the Krosse Cave in search of some treasure.
Read ahead as we go through the events in the Krosse Cave of Star Ocean: The Second Story R and share some tips as well as some helpful items that can be found throughout the game.

As you make your way to the cave from the city, you’ll find a chest that contains x4 Artemis Leaf along the way. It won’t be long until you arrive at the entrance of the cave.
Krosse Cave
The enemies in the Krosse Cave are notably stronger than the ones you’ve encountered before, but they reward some substantial EXP which can give your characters a boost. Take the time to grind a bit and bring your units around level 12 for the boss fight later on.
From the entrance, head to the left side of the fork, and then take another left to find a chest containing 1,000 Fol. Go back to the fork and continue heading north until you reach the next right turn, where you’ll find Blackberries.
Go back to the main path and follow it all the way to the east, then take the northeast path to find Blueberries. Continue down south, then take the east path on the next fork to find a Resurrection Mist and Leather Boots.
Follow the main path again until you reach the guarding enemies. Defeat them, then jump down the ledge to get to the central cavern.
Head to the northwest path to find x5 Eggs and Dairy. Go back to the central cavern, then take the northeast path all the way until the next fork; take the northwest path.
Each of the paths on the next fork will have chests that spawn more enemies. Defeat them, and you’ll get x2 Blackberries in one and x5 silver on the other.
Go back to the previous fork and take the northeast path where you’ll eventually encounter two more enemies blocking the way.
At the end of the path, there seems to be a strange rock formation and a dead end. After reviewing the map, Celine figures that she could open up a passageway with the use of magic. After doing so, feel free to use the save point as you’ll be heading into another boss fight soon.
The next room up ahead is full of treasure chests, but you’ll soon find out that one of them is just part of a trap.
Boss Fight: Gargoyles
You’ll be fighting against not one, but two Gargoyles. These enemies are a bit tricky since they can fly above the ground, requiring you to either use ranged attacks or jump high.
However, they’re not much of a challenge as long as you have leveled up your party well. It’s recommended to play as Claude, as he has the ability to be nimble and be able to easily take the aggro of the bosses. This way, all of your party members can dish out their own attacks while keeping both Rena and Celine safe at the back lines. In case you lose aggro with either one of them, don’t approach Claude, but rather have the targeted member lead the boss back to Claude instead.
After defeating the bosses, you’ll receive 1,000 EXP, 850 Fol, +6 SP, and +4BP, plus a Sacrificial Doll.
You can then investigate the Unique Spot – Jade Green Columns to get 500 EXP and x3 Green Beryl. Also, you can check the rest of the chests to get the following items:
- Walls of the Soul
- Sweet Potion
- 500 Fol
- Wooden Shield+
- Ancient Text
The Ancient Text is what Celine is after, however she cannot decipher it and decides to take it back home. Before leaving, Claude peeks into the chest and finds an AA Device and the Laeticia Jewel which unlocks the memory of Laeticia from Star Ocean 6.
You’ll then get a quick intro to how the Assault Action works. These jewels, which hold the memories of past heroes, allow you to summon them in battle once you have filled your assault gauge.
Go back to the entrance of the cave, but before leaving, you’ll have to decide whether you want to keep Celine in your party as a full-time member. If you accept and keep her in your party, she will fill up one slot in your 8-member party, leaving you with only 5 slots left. If you decide to let her go, you won’t be able to recruit her again until you go through another playthrough.
Post Krosse Cave
Once you’re out of the cave, you can then head on to your next objective, which is the town of Kurik up north.
Take the time to do a detour and check back in the previous towns to find more Private Actions.

Kurik is further up north of Krosse City, so once you’re done in the city, set a course towards the next objective. You’ll pass by other areas, such as the town of Marze, which you’ll be visiting later on, and areas that have high-level enemies near the Mountain Palace entrance. You can try your luck in here a bit to find some great items like the Safety Shoes, but it may take a while to be able to get on par with the enemies here.
On the way to Kurik, you’ll find the Unique Spot – Dawn-Lit Cascades, which will give you 500 EXP and a Benefaction Card. You can then proceed to the port town of Kurik just up ahead.
