The Destiny 2 Taraxippos Legendary Scout Rifle is the first Strand Scout to be added to the game. It is a 200 RPM Omolon frame that comes with both the Classy Contender and Omolon Fluid Dynamics Origin traits. There is plenty of reason to get excited about this weapon. Much like how Hung Jury got popular on account of Kinetic Tremors, the Destiny 2 Taraxippos Scout Rifle with Zen Moment is looking like it’s going to be a common sight in PvP for at least the end of the season.
How to get the Taraxippos in Destiny 2?
The Destiny 2 Taraxippos scout rifle is an exclusive weapon available during the Guardian Games event 2023. Players can acquire it by participating in Season of Defiance’s rerun of the event. To obtain this Legendary Scout Rifle, players have to farm it from Vanguard Strikes, Gambit, Crucible, Defiant Battlegrounds, Raids, Neptune activities and Nightfalls.
You have a chance to get a curated roll of the Taraxippos Scout Rifle after completing the “Talented Scout” triumph from the event card. You’ll also get another god roll as you progress Eva’s intro quest. Afterward, you can also get a random roll of the weapon after banking in Medallions at the Podium at the Tower.
Additionally, players can deposit medals at any podium in the Tower for a chance at extra loot. Equip a Guardian Games class item to earn medals across various game modes, with harder content rewarding higher-value Gold and Platinum medals.
Best Taraxippos PvE God Roll
- 1st Column: Chambered Compensator
- 2nd Column: Flared Magwell
- Stability Masterwork
- Fourth Time’s the Charm + Explosive Payload (Classic PvE god roll)
- Outlaw + Kill Clip (This combination plus Strand Surge, it’s going to hurt a lot.)
- Outlaw + Hatchling (Strand is the new hotness right now. Especially for Warlocks.)
- Zen Moment + Cascade Point (This will require you to get rapid hits/kills with your energy weapon and heavy weapon. But once you get Cascade Point running, you have 8 seconds to turn anything in front of you into a pin cushion.)
- Gutshot Straight + Explosive Payload
If you’re going to use the Taraxippos in PvE, you might do well by leaning heavily on it as a Strand weapon. That means applying Unraveling Rounds and Hatchling. Other than that, you will want to invest in mods that increase reload speed and stability.
PvE Tip:
Now this is an interesting roll. We can now say for certain that the explosions from Explosive Payload are increased with the aid of Gutshot Straight. We have tested the Gutshot Straight + Explosive Payload combination in PvE and we confidently say that this is probably the best use case for Gutshot Straight in the entirety of Destiny 2. The added damage values simply melt any red bars that get in front of your sights. The best thing is that you don’t necessarily have to go for body shots all the time.
This Destiny 2 Taraxippos god roll has earned its keep in PvE. But what about PvP? It actually does ok, especially in close to mid-range combat. Though you do feel the loss of “stickiness” when aiming down sights. If you’re bringing this into PvP, we hope your confidence in your aim is at an all-time high.
Best Taraxippos PvP God Roll
- 1st Column: Arrowheadbrake
- 2nd Column: Tactical Mag
- Stability Masterwork
- Zen Moment + Keep Away (30 range is small for a 200. But players are better off using it for the reload speed buff and reduction in aim cone size. Base measure of the gun’s potential.)
- Outlaw + Kill Clip (This will not help you on your first engagement but the snowball potential is huge once you start going for that second kill onwards.)
- Zen Moment + Cascade Point (This will require you to get rapid precision hits/kills with your energy weapon and heavy weapon. But once you get Cascade Point running, you have 8 seconds to turn anything in front of you into a pin cushion.)
Let’s make one thing clear: you will not be hanging around the back of the map with this gun. Taraxippos is a lightweight frame scout rifle that is best used at the further end of mid-range engagements. It is not Hung Jury or even Jade Rabbit. With that being said, you can still go all-in on range but at that point, you might as well use another scout rifle.
Zen Moment is the clear winner here. You can slap on practically anything else and you won’t have to worry about having to do much thinking. The buffed perk will do the heavy lifting. Provided you land the shots to activate it.
PVP Tip:
We’ve tested around half a dozen rolls of the weapon and we have come to the conclusion that this roll here is the most fun for PvP. The burst damage potential for this weapon is shocking. Especially those on the receiving end. All you need to do is to get rapid precision hits/kills using another weapon. Even heavy kills count.
How good is the Taraxippos Scout Rifle?
The Destiny 2 Taraxippos scout rifle has some middle-of-the-road stats. With the exception of its range being on the lower end of most 200 RPM scout rifles. It also has a lower zoom value, which can actually help it out in mid-range engagements. What it lacks in numbers, however, the gun makes up for with a somewhat deep perk pool.
These are the Taraxippos Base Stats before any perks are applied:
Impact: 60
Range: 30
Stability: 42
Handling: 69
Reload Speed: 59
Zoom: 19
Rounds Per Minute: 200
Magazine: 15
Taraxippos stands out with its unique perks, making it a top choice among scout rifles. Its perk pool offers valuable combinations that few other rifles can match:
3rd column perks
- No distractions
- Outlaw
- Zen Moment
- Fourth Time’s the Charm
- Moving Target
- Offhand Strike
- Gutshot Straight
4th column perks
- Keep Away
- Kill Clip
- Encore
- Focused Fury
- Cascade Point
- Hatchling
- Explosive Payload
