Where Winds Meet is taking its next major step in Southeast Asia, with Funtap Games and NetEase Games formally marking the game’s entry into the Vietnamese market at a launch event held in Hanoi.
Sirus Gaming attended the Where Winds Meet Vietnam Launch Press Conference, themed “When the Wind Rises,” at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel on September 7. The gathering brought together members of the gaming media, content creators, community representatives, and industry guests from Vietnam and across the broader Southeast Asian market.
Wuxia has long held a strong presence in Vietnamese gaming and entertainment through martial arts novels, television dramas, films, and online games. Because of this, many Vietnamese players are already intimately familiar with the language of wandering swordsmen, competing sects, historical fantasy, and the jianghu.
Where Winds Meet takes these cultural touchstones and builds them into a massive open-world action RPG. Developed by Everstone Studio, the game is set in tenth-century China and gives players the freedom to explore a martial arts world shaped by political instability, personal loyalty, and competing factions.
Hands-On at the PC Demo Area
Guests didn’t have to wait for the formal presentations to begin their journey. Before the main stage events even kicked off, invited media and creators were able to experience Where Winds Meet directly at a dedicated PC demo area. Funtap and NetEase Formalize Publishing Partnership
A central moment of the launch event was the formal cooperation signing ceremony between Funtap Games Joint Stock Company and NetEase Interactive Entertainment Pte. Ltd. We watched representatives from both companies, including Joy Chen, SEA Publishing Lead for Where Winds Meet, and Phillips Dao, CEO of Funtap Games, take the stage to formally mark the partnership.
The signing underscored that this is not simply a marketing arrangement for launch week. Funtap will act as the local publishing partner for the game in Vietnam, bringing its domestic market experience together with NetEase Games’ global publishing infrastructure.
Funtap’s localized responsibilities will cover:

The publisher has positioned the partnership as a way to make the global title more accessible and sustainable for Vietnamese players while retaining the identity of the original game.
Chen emphasized that the Vietnam launch should be viewed as the starting point rather than the end of the rollout. She said the game is expected to continue expanding through new main-story content, additional martial arts sects and associated storylines, new regions, gameplay features, and special events including global anniversary celebrations.
