Unity Lays off Almost 300 Employees

Unity Software will be letting go of almost 300 employees soon.

CEO John Riccitiello recently announced that Unity Software will cut off nearly 300 jobs. Specifically, 284 jobs will be cut off according to Wall Street Journal via GamesIndustry.biz.

The CEO sent a letter to his employees about the cuts. He explained, “We reassessed our objectives, strategies, goals, and priorities in light of the current economic conditions. While we remain focused on the same vision, we decided that we need to be more selective in our investments to come out stronger as a company.”

Unity has also sent a statement to the media outlet saying, “We’re dealing very specifically with overlap and a handful of projects are going in the closet.”

One of the projects that Unity will be shelved for a while was the one that focuses on sports viewing technology. There would be able to let anyone watch an event and see it from any angle they want.

The CEO says that they are letting go of some teams after putting some projects on the shelf for now.

The report says that the brunt of the cuts will come from the administrative ranks. These include the IT security and marketing areas.

This is the second time that Unity has let go of employees and this just happened in less than a year. Back in June 2022, the company laid off about 225 employees. According to the company, it was to “realign some of our resources to better drive focus and support our long-term growth.”

The new string of layoffs at Unity come after its acquisition of IronSource, and the layoffs it previously made in summer 2022.https://t.co/mqsBFWwieS
