DualSense Edge Has Smaller Battery Confirmed in Teardown Video

A recent teardown video confirmed that Sony’s new DualSense Edge controller will have a smaller battery.

DualSense Edge Teardown Video Reveals All

The $200 premium controller was recently released today via Sony’s PlayStation Direct store and select retail stores worldwide. Australian electronics firm Budd’s Controllers recently acquired it and made a teardown video to show what was inside one of these top-of-the-line peripherals. The results were exciting and confirmed one feature that the company already announced.

SIE revealed a few months ago that the DualSense Edge will have a moderately shorter battery life compared to the Standard version of the PS5 controllers. They explained that such a design is due to more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original version.

According to the firm, the premium controller has a smaller capacity battery compared to the standard version of the DualSense. It is a 1050 mAh battery while the original had a 1,560 mAh battery. The DualShock 4 of the PS4 console had a 1,000 mAh battery.

An image was also shared on the official Twitter account of Budd’s Controllers. The sizes of the two batteries are different with the DualSense Edge’s battery smaller.

While Sony has not explained the reason behind the smaller size of the battery, we can guess why. It is possible that due to the numerous features that the DualSense Edge has like the back buttons, adjustable triggers, and replaceable analog sticks, Sony had to cut down the size of the battery to make them all fit. As a result, the capacity of battery energy has been cut down too.

The DualSense Edge is now available in select retail stores and the PlayStation Direct Store.
