New reports claim that Ubisoft is currently developing the newest entry to the Fry Cry series, Far Cry 7, and also a standalone Far Cry Multiplayer game. It is claimed that these titles will use the same game engine as The Division.
Far Cry 7 and Far Cry Multiplayer Being Developed?
Media outlet Insider Gaming claims that their sources say Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned these two new entries to the Far Cry series during an internal company update sometime last week. These insiders also say that the game engine will be used in the Snowdrop engine instead of the usual Dunia engine used in the recent series entries.
Aside from The Division series, the Snowdrop engine will be used to develop Avatar Frontiers of Pandora and the open-world Star Wars game.
Ubisoft Montreal is said to be working on both Far Cry 7 and standalone Far Cry multiplayer. These two were also originally planned to be the same package. The report says that the multiplayer game is an extraction-based shooter. The Alaskan wilderness is its setting.
Lastly, the report claims that both titles are tentatively scheduled for release in the fall/autumn of 2025.
Two years ago, former Far Cry head Dan Hay departed from Ubisoft. He has been in Ubisoft Montreal for a decade prior and was the one who oversaw the series when it was still successful. He is now handling Blizzard’s upcoming new survival title.
Just recently, Ubisoft revealed it had canceled three unannounced games and one of them was already revealed. It will be focusing more on the more popular franchises instead rather than creating new ones due to weak sales last year. It is also facing difficulties just like other gaming companies that are experiencing the same challenges.
