Star Wars: The Old Republic Not Shutting Down Assures BioWare

BioWare assured fans that Star Wars: The Old Republic will not shut down when the new developers replace them to handle it.

It was announced earlier this month that BioWare has now been replaced by another studio to handle the popular classic MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. EA has now appointed third-party studio Broadsword Online Games to handle the game, which is actually run by the former Mything Entertainment Co-Founder, and BioWare VP Rob Denton.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Fans Concerned of Change

Fans were really concerned about the future of their favorite Star Wars MMO, but a new forum post by Executive Producer Keith Kanneg reveals the future of the game. He assured fans that the game is not heading into maintenance mode and there are plans for the next few years. It was also revealed that BioWare will be helping out a bit with planning for 2024 and 2025.

When Kanneg was asked if the game was heading to maintenance mode, he replied “Absolutely not.

“As I’ve said before, we are working on future plans including more story and modernization initiatives for the game. We’ve upgraded the game to 64-bit, and are working on moving the servers to the cloud, and there are more content and tech updates on the way.

“Moving to a third party studio would allow us a lot of creative freedom, and we’re very much looking forward to the opportunities that will be open to us.”

    Changes Not That Noticeable

Kanneg also addressed some other concerns. He said that little will change for players at present despite the changes happening behind the scenes like moving servers to the cloud.

“I know that when something like this happens it can bring on feelings of doom and gloom,” he said. “This isn’t the beginning of the end, this truly is a new beginning for us. As you can imagine there are quite a few moving parts right now but we have a lot to talk about in our future.”

Star Wars: The Old Republic is out now on PC and update 7.3.1 will be launching at the end of the summer.
