Fodder is an essential supply in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. Cows, sheep, horses, and goats need to eat fodder to grow and be able to produce their own products, so it is important to always have enough stock in the silo. Read ahead as we talk more about fodder and the ways to obtain and use it in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.
How to get Fodder in SoS AWL
There are two ways of obtaining Fodder. The first is by purchasing it through the blue ledger that can be found next to your shipping box at your farm. Be aware that you will have to wait until the next day to get the fodder that you have ordered, so plan ahead so that you don’t accidentally run out of it. Each Fodder costs 20G, while Fodder+ costs 50G.
The other option for obtaining fodder is by using your Sickle to mow down the tall grass that grows in your pasture. The cut grass will then turn into fodder and be stored in your barn’s silo right away.
How to grow Tall Grass in A Wonderful Life
The Tall Grass within your pasture grows slowly over time. However, you can speed their growth by spreading Fertilizer over the pasture. Fertilizer can be purchased from Vesta’s farm for 20G g per bag, or you can get a Fertilizer Maker as a farm upgrade where you can put any compostable material in it to produce fertilizer. At first, it’s best to stock up on a dozen or two bags of fertilizer so that you will have a steady supply of tall grass every day. Also, don’t use your first few bags of fertilizer on your crops in your first year just yet; getting higher quality crops gets easier in Year 2 once you have unlocked Vinnie.
To grow tall grass, equip the bags with fertilizer and then head to the pasture. Use the fertilizer on the empty ground, and you will see small tufts of grass immediately grow. Since grass will spread out over time, it’s best to also spread out your application of fertilizer. You can at least do a checkerboard pattern on the ground or spread them out a bit farther from each other to make sure that there’s enough empty space to grow around the fertilized patch.
With the Fertilizer Maker, you can virtually have an infinite supply of both fodder and fertilizer. Each fodder that you place inside the Fertilizer Maker will produce 5 bags of fertilizer, which you can then spread on your pasture to grow more tall grass. Rinse and repeat, and not only will you have enough fodder for your animals, but you will also have fertilizer to use for days on your crops to get them to S Rank quality quickly.
How to feed Animals in A Wonderful Life
Barn animals can be fed in two ways: you can put fodder into their feeding boxes inside the barn, or they can be taken out into the pasture so that they can feed on tall grass.
To get fodder from your silo, go inside the barn and head to the right side where you will see the fodder dispenser. Interact with it and you can then select how much fodder you would like to take. With fodder now in your inventory, head to the feeding boxes and place them down. Remember that animals need to be fed twice a day, so check their feeding boxes in the afternoon to make sure that they are full.
If animals are called out to the pasture, they will automatically feed on the tall grass. They can be left out in the pasture throughout the entire day to be kept fed, provided that there are enough tall grass patches growing in the field. Animals will get sick if they are left outside in bad weather, so pay attention to the weather report and call the animals back into the barn if it will rain the next day. This is why it’s important to always have a good stock of fodder to be able to feed your animals when it rains.
