Ubisoft Closes Unused Accounts Taking All Purchased Games

Ubisoft is suddenly canceling all unused accounts from users who have not logged in for a while and it takes with them all of the purchased games.

Ubisoft Closes Inactive Accounts with Purchased Games?!

One user on Twitter reported that they received an email from Ubisoft that warned them that if they would not click the link in it, the account, including all purchased games would be inaccessible after a certain period. The link would stop the account suspension so it would be a wise choice to click on it. Still, some users who are wary of the email wanted to clarify this before clicking since it looked a bit suspicious.

Ubisoft support Twitter account has responded with this statement: “we just wanted to chime in that you can avoid the account closure by logging into your account within 30 days (since receiving the email pictured) and selecting the Cancel Account Closure link contained in the email.”

    Following GDPR Regulations

The game company claims that this move is due to GDPR regulations. It is required to “close inactive accounts to comply with local data protection legislation. This is only if we have strong reasons to believe that the account in question will remain unused.”

    Contradictions

Ubisoft claims that it will not delete accounts with purchases attached to them for four years, but the email sent by them to the users appears to say the opposite. It seems the fear of digital games getting deleted forever is finally coming through although it is via accounts that have been unused for a while. These platforms should be able to keep those games for a long time and not delete them due to inactivity.
