Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster Announced for Modern Platforms

Nightdive Studios has confirmed Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster for modern platforms.

Nightdive Studios has recently remastered classic first-person games System Shock and Quake 2, and now it is working on another first-person shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces. It is currently in development for all modern-day platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

The single-player Star Wars FPS was first launched in 1995 for PC featuring the first adventure for players as Kyle Katarn. The story then continues to become a Jedi in Jedi Knight and the sequels. There are no lightsabers here but the missions and boss fights are all memorable.

Nightdive improves the 28 year old game’s gameplay and cutscenes just like the one with Quake 2 with the help of its in-house Kex Engine. It will allow modern controls and features like 4K resolution, widescreen support, and 60 FPS.

“What we really try to do is bring back the way you felt when you played the original,” Nightdive’s Larry Kuperman said to IGN. “That’s our mission. Our mantra is always about preservation. And you don’t preserve things by changing them.”

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will cost around $20-$30.
