The Japan Game Awards are an awards ceremony held by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) that recognizes outstanding video games released in Japan over the previous year. The ceremony was held recently and awarded multiple games, including Digimon Story: Time Stranger.

The Japan Game Awards 2026 awarded Bandai Namco’s biggest Digimon game, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, with the Excellence Award, which is a major category in the “Games of the Year Division” that honors multiple top-rated video games released during the qualifying period.

In an interview with Ryosuke Hara, Producer of the game, he said and quote;
“We are very grateful for receiving such a wonderful award this time. While making this game fully enjoyable for the fans who have supported us for so long is our top priority, our vision has always been broader. We want to reintroduce the special magic that only Digimon has to people who don’t know it yet, and to those who may have forgotten how much they loved it. We’re more than happy to see our efforts pay off like this, and I can’t thank everyone who voted for us. We read the comments we received one by one, which warmed our hearts. All of the development team would like to sincerely thank all of you.
This game celebrates its 30th anniversary in June 2027, next year.
It’s going to be a massive year. We will see significant momentum not just for the games, but for the entire “Digimon” IP moves. Please do look forward to the development of Digimon, including major DLC.”
