Sony Patent Could Mean Previous PlayStation Platforms Could Be Backwards Compatible with Cloud Tech

A recent Sony patent has emerged recently that suggested the previous PlayStation console games will be playable via Cloud tech.

    PlayStation 5

The patent was posted on Twitter by user Renka_schedule, which in Japanese but when translated to English (thanks Twitter feature!), it reads:

-A large number of game titles across PS1/PS2/PS3 and various generations of game consoles can be stored and used via the cloud gaming library.

-These games can be run on a virtual machine that mimics the operating system associated with each game console.

    ・PS1/PS2/PS3、様々な世代のゲーム機にわたる大量のゲームタイトルが、クラウドゲーミングライブラリを介して蓄積され利用可能。

That is what it roughly says on the caption. The left section features all three previous PlayStation consoles which are the PS1, PS2, and PS3 and it goes through certain sequences and then it could be speculated that the result will be played on the right image. From what everyone could speculate, this meant that the games from these previous consoles can be emulated via a certain technology, and by that tech it could mean Cloud.

The Twitter user then posted other images that suggested users will be able to make some records and even make mini-games from their gameplay and then share it to their friends. A particular feature from the DualSense controller comes into mind, which is the Create button. One of the posts suggested that this is the feature that will allow users to create those certain records and then add them to Cloud.

Again, these are just speculations and should be taken with a grain of salt. It does tickle the curious mind though. We will wait for Sony Interactive to officially confirm this.

    Thanks IGN!
