All 10 Elden Ring Classes – Best Starting Classes

Elden Ring Classes or Origins are only meant to be sort of a starter class based on how you would like to begin and go through the early parts of the game.

Elden Ring is one of the most highly anticipated games to come out in recent years. As an action role-playing game, players get to pick a class or, in Elden Ring’s terms, an Origin to play through the story, complete quests, and journey through the Lands Between.

As you progress, you get to shape your character even more based on how you want them to be.

This means, you don’t have to settle on strictly being just a Bandit or a Prophet throughout the entire game. Eventually, you’ll get to a point where you can re-allocate your stat points and try out different builds, may it be an entirely different class, or a mix of a couple. It opens up the possibility of experimenting and even min-maxing, which a lot of players will like.

How many classes are in Elden Ring?

There are 10 starting classes for Elden Ring. These classes are the starting archetypes for the player. For each Elden Ring Class, the player’s starting stats and equipment are determined by the class they choose, which can then be improved and upgraded later on as the game progresses.

    All 10 Elden Ring Classes

In this guide, we have listed down all the available Elden Ring classes that you can start with and their main stats, as well as some recommendations on what we think are the best classes to start with:

    • Vagabond
    • Warrior
    • Hero
    • Bandit
    • Astrologer
    • Prophet
    • Samurai
    • Prisoner
    • Confessor
    • Wretch

    Vagabond Class - Elden Ring
“A Knight exiled from their homeland to wander.
    A solid, armor-clad origin.”

    Vagabond

Vagabonds are the general swordsman class who wholly excels in having a tough and enduring body. They fights with melee attacks and they can’t inherently use magic, but investing some points in Faith or Intelligence will allow them to use basic healing spells or weapon augmentations.

    Main stats: Vigor, Strength, Dexterity

    Warrior Class - Elden Ring
    “A twinblade-wielding warrior from a nomadic tribe.
    An origin of exceptional technique.”

    Warrior

Warriors are a light-melee class that specialize in wielding lighter weapons like curved swords, daggers, and scimitars. They perform swift multiple-hit attacks and skills to compensate for their per-hit damage output and can also wield basic healing magic or weapon augmentations with the right amount of Faith or Intelligence.

    Main stats: Dexterity, Mind

    Hero Class - Elden Ring
“A stalwart hero, at home with a battleaxe,
    descended from a badlands chieftain.”

    Hero

Heroes are the berserker class who prefer to overwhelm their enemies with powerful burst attacks. They dish out fearless all-out swings towards their enemies with reckless abandon. They specialize in Strength-based weapons, and the ability to use lighter weapons an be done by investing some amounts on Dexterity.

    Main stats: Strength, Vigor, Endurance

    Bandit Class - Elden Ring
“A bandit who lives and dies by their arrows.
    A ranged combat specialist.”

    Bandit

Bandits are the stealthy class who go for ranged attacks and ambushes to subdue their opponents. They are known for dealing critical hits and though they prefer avoiding head-on confrontations, when the situation calls for it, they resort to parrying enemy attacks and constant repositioning to land backstabs.

    Main stats: Arcane, Dexterity

    Astrologer Class - Elden Ring
“A scholar who reads fate in the stars.
Heir to the school of glintstone sorcery.”

    Astrologer

Astrologers are the scholar class who specializes in single-target and multi-target spells to decimate their foes. They are well adept with sorcery with their affinity to Intelligence and Arcane and still carry a short sword when the situation needs it.

    Main stats: Intelligence, Mind, Arcane

    Prophet Class - Elden Ring
“A seer ostracized for inauspicious prophecies. Well-versed
    in healing incantations.”

    Prophet

Prophets are the mage class who specialize in utility spells that enhance their abilities, as well as healing spells to sustain themselves in battle. They are below average when it comes to melee combat, so they make up for it by casting Fire and Holy elemental attacks to defeat enemies.

    Main stats: Faith, Mind, Strength

    Samurai Class - Elden Ring
“A capable fighter from the remote Land of Reeds.
    Handy with katana and longbows.”

    Samurai

Samurais are a heavy-melee class that has a high focus on Dexterity. Hence, they are also well-trained when it comes to using the long bow along with their katana, covering both ranged combat and close combat encounters.

Main stats: Dexterity, Endurance, Vigor, Strength

    Prisoner Class - Elden Ring
“A prisoner bound in an iron mask. Having lived among the
elite prior to sentencing, they’re studied in glintstone sorcery.”

    Prisoner

Prisoners tread the path between swordsmanship and sorcery, mixing their melee attacks with their magic arts. Due to their focus being split into two seemingly opposite sides of combat styles, their progression in the early stages will be slower than the others, but they will gradually keep up and be on par once it gets access to the advanced weapons and spells.

    Main stats: Dexterity, Intelligence, Mind

    Confessor Class - Elden Ring
“A church confessor adept at covert operations.
Reliant on sword technique and incantations.”

    Confessor

Confessors are a defensive class that use subversive spells to debilitate the enemies first to be able to find an opening for a close-range attack or to gain some distance for some respite. They also use restorative spells to sustain themselves in battle.

Main stats: Faith, Mind, Strength, Dexterity

    Wretch Class - Elden Ring
“A poor sod, naked as the day they were born.
A club is all they have.”

    Wretch

Wretches are the “classless” class, if that makes any sense. They are a blank slate and they start with almost nothing except for their undies and a club. They can become whatever the player wants to be. Because of the added challenge of this class, Wretches are intended to for players who are already familiar with the game. But who is stopping those who seek the challenge from picking this as their first class?

    Main stats: None

Best Starting Classes in Elden Ring

These are some of the Elden Ring classes that we think would be fun and good to start as in the Lands Between.

    • Samurai – they are a fairly tough class which gives newbies a bit more of a forgiving experience, especially at the start of the game when the focus is mainly more on figuring things out.
    • Confessor – similar to the Samurai, being more of a defensive class gives new players some assistance while working out the learning curve of the game.
    • Wretch – the ultimate starting experience. Starting from scratch in a new and unexplored world and then eventually becoming a powerful being feared by every creature in the Lands Between gives such a satisfying feeling. Again, not intended for new players, but who is going to stop us?

What is the best class in Elden Ring?

Elden Ring’s Vagabond class is perhaps the best class if you want to build a tanky Strength or Dexterity melee character, as it has the most amount of Vigor than any class, and the second with the most Strength in the lineup, and a high amount of Dexterity as well.

The Vagabond is an excellent choice for beginners because of its fortitude and ability to hit at close distance. Players will be able to equip heavy armor from the start of the game, which will allow them to withstand significantly more punishment.

This provides players with a bit more leeway in case they make a mistake. Because the Vagabond is also equipped with a straight sword and shield, gamers will have an easier time learning key fighting techniques like parrying.
