The Daedalian Keys are literally key items that can be found throughout the Hogwarts Castle in Hogwarts Legacy. These flying keys are needed to open cabinets that contain house tokens that players can collect.
Read ahead as we go through the steps on how to complete The Daedalian Keys side quest in Hogwarts Legacy and share all the locations of all the keys and the cabinets.
How to unlock The Daedalian Keys Side Quest
To unlock The Daedalian Keys side quest, you must first complete the Welcome to Hogsmeade main quest. You will also need to acquire the Alohomora by completing The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament quest as some keys will be behind locked doors.

- Find the Daedalian key in the Astronomy Tower
- Find the Daedalian key’s cabinet
- Open the Daedalian lock
- Return to Nellie with the token
- Insert the house token into your house chest
- Find the remaining house tokens
- Return to the house chest to deposit tokens
- Speak with Nellie
The Daedalian Keys side quest Walkthrough
After completing the required quest, you can go to the Transfiguration Courtyard in the Astronomy Wing where Nellie Oggspire will be available to talk to for the quest.
Speak with Nellie Oggspire
Talk to Nellie at the Transfiguration Courtyard and she will tell you about the return of the Daedalian Keys. You’ll need to find these keys flying about in certain parts of the castle, then look for cabinets that they can slot into to get the house tokens inside.
Find the Daedalian key in the Astronomy Tower
The first Daedalian Key can be found at the very top of the Astronomy Tower. You can use the Floo Flames of the Astronomy Tower or make your way there by foot. The key will fly away towards its cabinet once you approach it.
Find the Daedalian key’s cabinet
Go back down to the Astronomy Classroom to find the cabinet where the Daedalian Key goes into.
Open the Daedalian lock
To open the Daedalian lock, wait for the key to fly close to the keyhole, then slap it. You’ll then unlock the cabinet and obtain a house token.
Return to Nellie with the token
Go back to the Transfiguration Courtyard and talk to Nellie about the token. She will instruct you to keep the token in your house chest for now.
Insert the house token into your house chest
Follow the quest marker to your house chest and place the token inside.
Find the remaining house tokens that are around Hogwarts
There are 15 more tokens left to be found in the castle, so you will have to locate the Daedalian Keys first in order to find them all.
Return to the house chest to deposit tokens
Once you have all the house tokens, return to your house chest and place them all inside.
Speak with Nellie
Go back to Nellie and report to her about all the house tokens to complete the quest.
Daedalian Key Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
Here are the locations of the other Daedalian Keys and their respective cabinets (all starting points will be from the closest Floo Flames in bold):
- Daedalian Key #2
The second key can be found in the Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower, near the skeleton of the rhinoceros. Then, climb up the stairs to the south side and turn to the right where the cabinet is.
- Daedalian Key #3
The third key can be found in the Library Annex > Potions Classroom. As you take the Potions Classroom Floo Flame, head to the door on the east and you should find the key by the stairwell. Follow it down the stairs and you will see the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #4
The fourth key can be found in the Library Annex > Central Hall. Head down the main stairs and go down the north stairs and turn left to find the key. Follow the key to the south side where the cabinet is.
- Daedalian Key #5
The fifth key can be found in the Library Annex > Central Hall. Take the stairs on the left, then continue climbing up until you reach the east door. Go to the path on the right under the stairs and you will find the key. Go down a flight of stairs and you will find the cabinet on the right.
- Daedalian Key #6
The sixth key can be found in the Library Annex > Library. Go to the right side of the library and you will find the key in between the bookcases. Follow it to the other side near the library’s door to find the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #7
The seventh key can be found in the Entrance Hall. From the Great Hall Floo Flame, go out of the Great Hall and through the third door to find the key. The cabinet is just near the entrance door to the right.
- Daedalian Key #8
The eighth key can be found in the Great Hall. Go to the fireplace to the east and you’ll find the key. Follow it to the western side of the hall and up the north stairs to find the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #9
The ninth key can be found in the Quad Courtyard. Simple head west near the door to the courtyard to find the key. Follow it down the stairs and to the western side of the courtyard to find the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #10
The tenth key can be found in the Grand Staircase Tower. Go down the staircase and you’ll eventually find the key. Continue going down the staircase until you reach the Reception Hall where the cabinet can be found.
- Daedalian Key #11
The eleventh key can be found in the South Wing > Faculty Tower. Finding this key requires the Alohomora spell. Head to the south side, then turn west upon reaching the Faculty Tower. Go up the stairs and you will find the key near the door with the balloons. Head back down and you’ll find the cabinet near the base of the stairs.
- Daedalian Key #12
The twelfth key can be found in the South Wing > Hospital Wing. Go through the hallway of portraits to find the key. Then, head back to the Floo Flame to find the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #13
The thirteenth key can be found in the South Wing > Clock Tower Courtyard. Finding this key requires the Alohomora spell. Go to the locked door near the swinging pendulum and cast Alohomora to unlock it. Climb up the stairs into the upper level and head to the north side to find the key. Go higher up the stairs and you’ll find the cabinet to the left.
- Daedalian Key #14
The fourteenth key can be found in the North Hall, take the Bell Tower Wing > Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame. Climb the stairs to the south to enter the North Hall and find the key. Follow the key up the very top of the staircase where you will find the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #15
The fifteenth key can be found in the Dungeons, take the Secret Rooms > Map Chamber Floo Flame. Go all the way up the stairs and go to the hallway to find the key. Retrace your steps back up the stairs and turn left to find the cabinet.
- Daedalian Key #16
The sixteenth key can be found in the Dungeons, take the Secret Rooms > Map Chamber Floo Flame. Make your way through the path where you found the fifteenth key, and continue going down it until you find the sleeping dragon statue where the key is. Then, follow the path to the left up the stairs to find the cabinet.
The Daedalian Keys Rewards
After completing the quest, you’ll be able to open the house chest and get the Relic House Uniform with the design that is based on your character’s house. You will also get 180 XP.
