Destiny 2: Archie the Robot Dog is Going Away, Now What?

With Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion less than 24 hours away, players are now looking back on the season that was. Now that we’ve done everything we can to prepare for the next expansion, we have just realized that we are going to lose a member of our Destiny family – bestest cyber pup, Archie.

User destiny_thememe posted about this batman image with the caption, “Destiny players at the end of Season 19.” The image implies that we will no longer see our favorite cyber dog at the end of the season. Sad as that may be, this will not be the last time we will be seeing our favorite robot dog.

For a little bit of a background, Archie was a seasonal Easter Egg for the Season of the Seraph, much like the penguins and the moths from previous seasons. For Bungie’s part, all the developers wanted to build a robot dog.

The following is a quote from This Week at Bungie from the 12th of January, 2023.

“After the team came up with the idea, the first question was, “Can I pet it?” And we knew the answer had better be, “Yes!” So, we quickly performed this interesting test to confirm that “petting the dog” was indeed possible.”

“Then after tons of folks added their own creative contributions across many teams, we finally had Archangel, the good boy below.”

It took us nearly a month to get all the abilities needed to open the door, but we finally got to meet Archangel at Seraph Station. And luckily for us, he chose to live with us on the H.E.L.M.

And yes, you can pet the dog.

Is Archie the dog ever coming back to Destiny 2?

As for what happens next – sadly, Archie will be going away for a while. That’s right, bestest boy has confirmed to be coming back in the future.

In the TWAB, Bungie assured us about Archie’s future.

“We know a lot of you really like Archie and are concerned about their future. They are leaving the H.E.L.M. at the end of the season, but they will be returning to the Tower in Season 21 for more pets.”

    Sam from Bungie

You heard that correctly folks, Archie will be coming back in Season 21, in the Tower, and he will not be alone. More pets look to be coming to the game in the future. I don’t know quite know if we’re ready for a WoW explosion of pets just yet. But to know that Archie will be coming back is a comforting thought.

And that’s all there is for Archie at the moment. This will not be the last time we will be talking about Archie, so stay tuned with us for more news about Archie and Destiny 2 in general.

Check out this video from Youtuber Forcer where they show what happens when Destiny 2 players meet Archie for the first time.
