Minthara is one of the companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. She is a Drow Paladin who is a firm worshipper of the Absolute. Unlike the other companions, Minthara is not one of the origin characters, and she can only be recruited as a companion by choosing a dark path. Read ahead as we talk more about Minthara and how to recruit him as a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3.
BG3: How to recruit Minthara
Minthara can be found in the Shattered Sanctum ordering her goblin troops to find the tieflings and eradicate them.
To go on the path to recruit her, you will have to choose to side with the goblins and attack the tieflings and druids in the Druid Grove during the Raid the Grove quest. This is just the first part and Minthara won’t be a companion yet and be aware that some companions might leave you as soon as you announce that you are siding with the goblins.
After the battle, Minthara will invite you to celebrate their victory in your camp. You will them have an intimate scene together where you can try and pry deeper in her thoughts; failing in the check will make Minthara angry towards you. Regardless of the result, you will head back to your bed and rest, only to be awoken by Minthara as she tries to kill you in your sleep.
At this point, you must convince Minthara that you are both on the same side as True Souls for the Absolute. If you fail to persuade her, you will have to fight against her and kill her, which will lock you out from her companionship.
Once you reach the Infiltrate the Moonrise Towers quest, you will encounter Orin who posed as Minthara, revealing that she has imprisoned the drow and has been torturing her. You will then have to rescue Minthara by either talking to her captors through non-combative ways and passing their checks, or you can just outright engage them in a battle. After making the escape from the towers and heading back to camp, you can then talk to Minthara, go through her dialogues, and add her into the party.
Recruit Minthara and Halsin
Note: Some reports from other players suggest that you do not need to even talk to Minthara at the sanctum as long as you let the druids do their Rite of Thorns to drive the tieflings away from the grove. You can simply rescue her from the Moonrise Towers and you can recruit her as a companion.
Although the story suggests that Minthara and Halsin are both on opposite warring camps, there is a way to recruit them both as the same time. To do this, you only need to talk to Zevlor and Kagha to learn about Kagha’s plan to do the Rite of Thorns to drive the tieflings out of the Druid Grove.
For the next part, you will have to head out of the grove and travel to the farther areas like the Underdark or the Mountains in order to let the druids progress through the ritual in the grove.
You can then wait for a day and head into the Goblin Camp and set Halsin free. Upon learning that the grove has already closed their gates to anyone, Halsin expresses that he could no longer head back to the grove and decides to join you for the mean time, but not as a full companion yet. You won’t need to talk to Minthara through all of this, especially not when she heads out to the grove only to find that she can no longer enter it, too; doing so will just put you in a fight against her.
You can then proceed to Act 2 where you can then take on the Lift the Shadow Curse to finally recruit Halsin into your party, and then you can head to the Moonrise Towers and rescue Minthara from her execution and recruit her into the party as well.
Though it is quite possible to have both companions within the party, it appears as if this may have been a bug, an oversight, or perhaps a possibility that just wasn’t finished during development. Nevertheless, aside from the visual bug where their tents overlap each other, there hasn’t been any reported game breaking bug just by having the two of them in the party together.
BG3: Minthara Personality and Preferences
Minthara is a cold and tough drow who would do anything to show her worship to the Absolute. She then later shows her ruthless side to seize power and becoming on par with the Absolute after killing Ketheric and vowing to get her revenge towards Orin for brainwashing her. Minthara has no other romantic scenes apart from the one during the celebration, but further dialogues can give you options that affirm your loyalty to one another when talking about rising to power over the land.
