    Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark Guide

The Underdark is one of the locations in Baldur’s Gate 3. It is a large underground cavern located underneath the Blighted Village that is big enough to be its own world. Read ahead as we go through the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3 and share its secrets.

    How to reach the Underdark

There are several ways to reach the Underdark:

    • Jump into the whole at the Phase Spider’s lair in the Whispering Depths
    • Solve the door puzzle in the Defiled Temple
    • Use the portal found in the Overgrown Tunnel
    • Ride the elevator at the Zhentarim Hideout

The first two options will most likely be the options that you will be taking depending on the quests that will be available to you.

    Underdark Quests and Events

There are several quests that are related to the Underdark, most of which are long running quests that will have you visit the place for a few objectives, such as:

    • Find a Cure – Tell Omeluum about the Parasite
    • Find the Nightsong
    • The Wizard of Waterdeep
    • Travel to Moonrise Towers

There are also quests that can be initiated within the Underdark as well which involves the myconids and the duergars.

    Cure the Poisoned Gnome

Go to the Myconid Circle where you will find a gnome named Thulla who is deathly sick from being poisoned. You can choose to cure her or not. If you have an antitoxin with you, you can give it to her to cure her poison.

If you talk to her some more before curing her, you will find out that a Duergar poisoned her. Knowing this, you will have the option to do a Medicine check instead to learn more about curing the poison.

Once Thulla is cured, you will be given the Boots of Speed as a reward. She will also ask for your help in helping her kin through the Save the Grymforge Gnomes quest.

    Defeat the Duergar Intruders

Talk to the myconid in the Myconid Circle who introduced itself as Sovereign Spaw. It talks about the duergar and dark dwarves who intruded their home and slayed their young. It then asks for your help to get rid of the remaining intruders in their land.

If you agree to the request, head to the Underdark Beach where you will fight the remaining duergars. Once it’s done, head back to the Sovereign Spaw to complete the quest and receive the Deliver Nere’s Head quest.

    Find the Mushroom Picker

Go to the Ebonlake Grotto where you will find the merchant named Derryth Bonecloak. Talk to her to start the quest where she will ask for your help to look for someone named Baelen. Before going for this quest, it’s recommended to have the Misty Step scroll with you as it will be needed to help Baelen later on.

Once you find Baelen in the northern part of the Underdark, you will see that he is surrounded by Bibberbangs that explode if you approach them. Baelen will stop you from coming any closer, but you can show him the Misty Step scroll. If you pass a Strength check, you can throw the scroll to him to save himself. If none of the bibberbangs are triggered, you can also pick up a Noblestalk that will be useful later.

Alternatively, you can use Misty Step to get a backpack nearby which is also surrounded by bibberbangs. Getting this backpack contains a spell that can help Baelen.

After rescuing Baelen, you can talk once more to Derryth to complete the quest. You also have the option to give her the Noblestalk if you managed to get it; doing so will make Derryth reward you with the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo.

    Getting the Phalar Aluve

There is a drow weapon located at X:116, Y:-237 known as the Phalar Aluve. It is stuck on a rock and you can attempt to pull it. You can either do a Strength check (DC 15) or a Religion Check (DC 15). Doing a religion check will have you do a blood sacrifice, after which the sword will leave the stone on its own and you can take it.
