Baldur’s Gate 3: Where to Find Chest of the Mundane

The Chest of the Mundane is more impressive than it sounds in Baldur’s Gate 3. Carrying such an innocuous name is enough for us to be suspicious and we’re right because this chest is carrying some pretty cool items. We’ve made this guide to teach you where to find the Chest of the Mundane so you can take the contents for yourself.

Where to Find the Chest of the Mundane in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The BG3 Chest of the Mundane can be found in the Arcane Tower located in the Underdark. You can find on the first floor balcony of the tower itself to the right. The hallways are guarded by arcane turrets that you need to get past by before you can loot it though.

What makes the Mundane Chest interesting is that it’s enchanted with some sort of magic. You need a Perception Check to notice it. The true contents of the Chest of the Mundane won’t reveal itself until you’ve looted it to your inventory.

Of course, you need to find a way into the Underdark first before you can even reach the Arcane Tower and get the Mundane Chest. One way to do this is by going to the Goblin’s Camp and entering the Defiled Temple. There is a Moon Puzzle there that will unlock a path that leads directly to the Underdark.

You can find the Arcane Tower by heading to the southwest of the Underdark. You’ll eventually find an entrance with two arcane turrets. You can sneak past them or disable them with Sussur Blossom and the Generator which you can find in the backyard. Get through until you reach the first floor where it’s guarded by arcane turrets. The Chest of the Mundane is located just at the balcony to the right side.

What’s in the Chest of the Mundane BG3?

Here are the true contents of the Chest of the Mundane:

    • Gold Ingot
    • Heartlight Bomb
    • Mystra’s Grace Boots
    • Scroll of Mage Armor
    • Scroll of Protection from Evil and Good

When you first open the chest, you’ll see little nothing more than silverware. However, they’ll change into their true forms the moment you actually put them in your inventory. Along with Mystra’s Grace Boots are some magical scrolls that are extremely useful.

What you may miss, is that the Chest of the Mundane has one more useful ability. It can reduce the weight of whatever’s inside to .05kg making heavier objects lightweight. And the best part? It can virtually hold an endless number of items. The Mundane Chest itself weights about 20kg but you can take it into your inventory and store items in it. Because of this, make sure to carry the chest with you as it can be invaluable for hoarding items.
