Even though developers Motive Studio is following the original faithfully, players can collect Marker Fragments to unlock an alternate ending for the Dead Space Remake. Here’s where you can find each of the Marker Fragment locations in the Dead Space Remake:
- Marker Fragment 1: In Chapter 1, Hangar-Cargo-Tram Control inside the Maintenance Bay Office
- Marker Fragment 2: In Chapter 2, Floor 1 of Medical inside Dr. T. Kyne – CSO
- Marker Fragment 3: In Chapter 3, Floor 3 of Engineering inside the Engine Room
- Marker Fragment 4: In Chapter 4, Floor 1 of Bridge inside the Break Room
- Marker Fragment 5: In Chapter 5, Floor 4 of Medical inside Dr. C. Mercer – 250 Office
- Marker Fragment 6: In Chapter 6, Floor 4 of Medical inside Cryogenics
- Marker Fragment 7: In Chapter 7, Floor 4 of Hydroponics inside the East Grow Chamber

To get the Dead Space Remake secret ending, you must first finish the main campaign at least once on any difficulty, then replay the game on New Game+ mode. It’s in the New Game Plus that you’ll get access to a new collectible called a Marker Fragment. Collect all twelve Marker Fragments listed above in each chapter, and that will unlock a new scene at the end of the game.
Be warned that the New Game Plus mode features stronger enemy variants which makes the journey of collecting the Dead Space Remake Marker Fragments more challenging. The randomizer AI will also ensure that your experience will differ from your previous playthrough.
Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 3 Location
In Chapter 3, you can find the Marker Fragment in the Engine room where you manually ignite the engines. Before doing so, go to the dark part of the room where a desk with robotic arms can be found. Look behind and you’ll see a purple glow, that’s the Marker Fragment you’re looking for.
Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 7 Location
In Chapter 7, the Marker Fragment can be found in the Hydroponics in the East Grow Chamber. Once you turn off the gravity to grab the Wheezers, go to the upper right corner as soon as you come in. You’ll see the Marker Fragment on Floor 4. Make sure to grab it before piloting the shuttle to Aegis VII.
Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 8 Location
In Chapter 8, go to the Mineral Samples room in Mining to find the Marker Fragment on the shelf. You’ll have to first grab Dallas’ Ring and get level 3 Security Clearance to get past the locked door before heading to Floor 5 and accessing the Mineral Samples room.
Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 10 Location
In Chapter 10, the Marker Fragment can be found in the Deluxe Shift Bunks in Floor 3 on the Crew Quarters. You’ll need to first get rid of the Necromorph growths to get to the elevator that gives you access to the Deluxe Shift Bunks. Then install the power and use the circuit breaker to open the doors to this room.
How to Unlock the Dead Space Remake Secret Ending
Once you have obtained all 12 Marker Fragments, head over to Captain Mathius’ room on the third floor of the Crew Quarters where you’ll see a shrine where you can place every Marker Fragment you have found.
After that, simply finish the game leading to an alternate ending, different from what you have witnessed during your first playthrough. This secret ending will not play if you have not collected all 12 Marker Fragments and placed them on the shrine.
