Destiny 2 Stay Frosty God Roll 2023: Best PvP & PvE Perks

The Stay Frosty is a lightweight frame Stasis pulse rifle that’s best known for its ability to kill-chain in PvP. This is the weapon’s second appearance since its introduction last year and during that time away, it has received only a couple of changes to its perk pool, specifically the removal of a few useless perks.

When I first picked up the gun at the beginning of the Dawning event, I instantly felt like the weapon was different somehow. It was only later on that I realized that the muzzle flash was intensified in such a way that it started to obscure my vision – in a game that’s already visually messy and chaotic. But the gun impresses still to the point that I can forgive the visual clutter. It’s not like Bungie can make it worse. (Please don’t.)

How to get Stay Frosty in Destiny 2

The Stay Frosty pulse rifle can only be acquired during the Dawning event. In the three weeks that the event is active, players can have a chance to acquire different rolls from Eva in the tower if they have enough Presents and Dawning Spirits.

Guardians will need to unlock the weapon first in Collections to have access to weapon focusing. This is accomplished by either completing the associated Event card challenge to unlock your first roll of the weapon or by getting lucky with a random decode from Eva.

Best Stay Frosty PvP God Rolls

  • 1st Column: Smallbore
  • 2nd Column: Accurized Rounds
  • Stability Masterwork
  • Backup Mag Mod
  • Encore + Desperado
  • Encore + Kill Clip
  • Killing Wind + Kill Clip

The Encore rolls are the most unique rolls for the weapon. When paired with a perk like Kill Clip, you have the potential to become chain kill incarnate in 6v6 lobbies. Killing Wind is a good alternative if you wish to play aggressively. Encore is better in my opinion for pulses because it fits with the playstyle and lasts longer than Killing Wind. The Desperado roll is more fun than practical, akin to something like Cascade Point.

Even though the numbers say that Smallbore and Accurized Rounds are the way to go. I happen to like my roll with Fullbore and Flared Magwell. Sure, I sacrificed a few crucial stats here and there but I get reload speed to get Kill Clip up and running ASAP.

  • 1st Column: Arrowhead Brake
  • 2nd Column: Accurized Rounds
  • Range Masterwork
  • Counterbalance Stock
  • Moving Target + Headseeker

This is the consistency roll that’s tried and tested on other pulse rifles. I’ve gotten this exact roll a couple of times and scrapped them both. I have more than a few Headseeker pulse rifles and I don’t want another one sitting idly in my vault, god roll, or otherwise. But if you’re a New Light and looking for an idea of what the best pulses can do, you can use this as your starting point.

Stay Frosty is one of the few Dawning weapons I’ll bring out in the middle of the year in 6v6s just for the fun of it. Running and gunning is what this lightweight pulse is good at. It will never be as good as rapid-fires or high-impact frames but it does surprise Guardians now and then. I just wish the muzzle flash would be toned down sometime down the line.

Best Stay Frosty PvE God Roll

  • 1st Column: Fluted Barrel
  • 2nd Column: Accurized Rounds
  • Stability Masterwork
  • Backup Mag Mod
  • Enlightened Action + Collective Action
  • Enlightened Action + Headstone

I’ve experimented quite a bit with the PvE god roll. But no matter how I try to make an Attrition Orbs roll work, it always comes back to Enlighted Action. There’s something about higher handling and reload speed that speaks to me as a player who likes to mow down Thrall as if they were grass. And Enlighted Action does allow me to do that more than any other perk in the perk pool.

I don’t particularly have any strong attachments to any of the fourth-column perks for PvE. But if I have to choose one, it’s going to have to be Headstone for the reason that you don’t have to be running a Stasis subclass to make work, unlike Collective Action. It’s not impossible to make it work with other subclasses. I just don’t like the idea of having my pulse as a secondary only to be pulled when an elemental pickup is in play.

How good is the Stay Frosty?

The Stay Frosty is one of the most unique chain-killing pulse rifles in the game but it’s not very popular since it’s a lightweight frame. If you look past the muzzle flash and the frame, you might just like this pulse for what it brings to the table.

These are the Stay Frosty base stats before any perks are applied:

  • Impact: 27
  • Range: 38
  • Handling: 67
  • Reload Speed: 56
  • Zoom: 18
  • Rounds Per Minute: 450
  • Magazine: 30

Stay Frosty’s perk pool has seen an upgrade from last year’s offering. It’s more focused on landing precision shots and building momentum after netting a kill. Under-Over, Attrition Orbs, and Offhand Strike might not be high on most preferred perks lists. I wanted to make Attrition Orbs work but all that effort to activate the perk only for a small Orb of Power to drop ultimately convinced me to stop the pursuit.

3rd Column Perks:

  • Encore
  • Tunnel Vision
  • Moving Target
  • Killing Wind
  • Offhand Strike
  • Enlightened Action
  • Heating Up

4th Column Perks:

  • Desperado
  • Headstone
  • Kill Clip
  • Headseeker
  • Under-Over
  • Attrition Orbs
  • Collective Action

Currently, I am debating whether or not to scrap my Stay Frosty from last year. If it had Ricochet Rounds or High-Caliber, I would have decided to go against it. And I might just scrap it for the vault space. Traveler knows I need the space. But that’s everything I’ve got for this Stay Frosty 2023 god roll guide and weapon review. Good luck and have fun out there, Guardians.
