Destiny 2 Albedo Wing God Roll: Best PvP & PvE Perks

The Dawning 2023 Edition

It’s the last week of Destiny 2’s Dawning Event 2023 and I figure it’s time to go over the god rolls for the event weapons starting with the newly added Albedo Wing. Glaives get a bad rap in Destiny 2, for good reason. They are notoriously inconsistent in PvP and no one in their right mind will even consider bringing one into a Master Nightfall or other high-level content. It’s strictly a ‘fun’ weapon for times when you want to mix things well beyond the meta.

The Albedo Wing is an Arc Aggressive Glaive that can be acquired from the Dawning event. My initial impression of the weapon is that it’s a glaive… a Destiny 2 glaive. I should have ended the review then and there but that’s when I came across the one perk that has the potential of setting the weapon apart from other glaive.

I’m talking about the Beacon Rounds perk. It worked so well for the Indebted Kindness sidearm, right? Maybe it might be good on this weapon as well. (Spoiler alert: it does not work in the way that you think.)

How to Get Albedo Wing in Destiny 2?

To get the Albedo Wing, you’ll first need to take part in the Dawning event. There are two ways to unlock the weapon for crafting. The first is to complete specific challenges on the event card. The second way is to take a chance and decode a Dawning engram with the hopes of acquiring a random roll.

Once you have the weapon unlocked, you can farm rolls in exchange for 1 Gift in Return and 25 Dawning Spirit. You get both resources by baking cookies and giving them to the various vendors across the system. Gifts in Return are harder to accumulate as they are a chance reward for cookies. 3 Dawning Spirits are guaranteed with each cookie gifted. You also get more by equipping the Dawning exclusive ship: Starfarer 7M.

Best Albedo Wing PvP God Roll

  • 1st Column: Tempered Truss Rod
  • 2nd Column: Accurized Rounds
  • Handling Masterwork
  • Targeting Adjuster Mod
  • Beacon Rounds + Golden Tricorn
  • Beacon Rounds + High-Impact Reserves

When using a glaive in PvP, you typically won’t be running a defensive build that relies on shields. Bungie made sure that shields weren’t as oppressive as they once were. Instead, you’ll want to go for a run-and-gun style that goes for drive-bys and wild swings. You won’t be beating anyone with a shotgun (or a fusion rifle) but at least you’ll be able to catch a few Guardians off guard with a glaive stuffed down their throats.

The idea with Beacon Rounds is that you’ll have access to homing rounds after your first kill. It’s a nice idea in theory but it all falls apart in practice.

The first thing to know is that you won’t get Beacon Rounds from melee kills. It all has to be ranged kills to activate. Second, the glaive is so inconsistent with its shots that even when you do get Beacon Rounds, it’ll only apply homing to half your shots. It’s not the perk’s fault if you’re wondering. It works great on Indebted Kindness. It’s just that glaives are the most capricious weapon type in Destiny 2. They already have horrible melee hit registration and now we find out that the homing rounds work “sometimes”. I’m honestly not surprised by anything anymore.

It also baffles me that a weapon like this doesn’t come with Impulse Amplifier. I guess Bungie wanted the focus to be on Beacon Rounds or something. I can’t think of anything other reason why.

Best Albedo Wing PvE God Rolls

  • 1st Column: Auxiliary Reserves
  • 2nd Column: Light Mag
  • Range Masterwork
  • Targeting Adjuster Mod
  • Replenishing Aegis + Close to Melee

This is the go-to combination for most PvE glaives. Replenishing Aegis allows you to push forward to get Close to Melee into play. It’s a simple yet effective combo that utilizes a glaive’s full kit. The 30% increase in melee damage is nice to have for crowd control. But you’ll have limited success against Majors. Grave Robber + Close to Melee is a good secondary roll to keep kill-chains going.

  • 1st Column: Low-Impedance Windings
  • 2nd Column: Light Mag
  • Reload Speed Masterwork
  • Targeting Adjuster Mod
  • Immovable Object + High-Impact Reserves

This god roll takes defense on a level seldom seen in the game. It requires you to stand still and shoot enemies through your shield as they fight back in vain. Landing shots inevitably hit harder as both perks activate at the same time. It’s a bit overkill for red bar enemies. But you can take satisfaction in knowing that yellow bars will melt in a few shots.

It’s been firmly established at this point that glaives are better suited for PvE activities. It’s not much of a compliment in a game that prioritizes abilities that clear out entire sections with a press of a button. You’ll have to go in every encounter with reckless abandon in most team activities to stay ahead of the Solar explosions, which are popular in this season’s sandbox thanks to more than a few artifact mods.

How Good is the Albedo Wing?

The Albedo Wing is pretty mid as glaives go. As an event weapon, it is not worth the grind for the 5/5 god roll. Heck, even the Zephyr is more appealing and that sword is only good as a Stasis Heavy that can produce additional Power Orbs. If there’s anything good that came from this little experiment, it is the fact that it convinced me to finally make a build with Triton Vice for my Hunter.

I had a blast going around making small explosions in PvE as well as overflowing the magazine after melee hits. Interestingly enough, the melee buff also takes effect in PvP. Without Triton Vice, it needed around 3-4 whacks to kill anyone. The gauntlets bring it down closer to 2-3 hits depending on Albedo Wing’s mood at the time. Do you “need” Triton Vice to make it perform better in PvE and PvP? Not really. But I do get budget Dragonfly and Grave Robber on kills. So that’s something.

These are Albedo Wing base stats before any perks are applied:

  • Impact: 95
  • Range: 75
  • Shield Duration: 30
  • Handling: 35
  • Reload Speed: 30
  • Rounds Per Minute: 45
  • Magazine: 3

The Albedo Wing’s perk pool is standard fair for most glaives. Beacon Rounds, Deconstruct, and Attrition Orbs are the new perks added this season.

If the Albedo Wing was consistent with its melee attacks, I can see a god roll with Attrition Orbs and Strand Titan. Deconstruct is an interesting option in PvE. It’s useless in PvP since you have to deal damage to Guardians first before you can heavily damage shields and wells. Perhaps it can be good in the far, far future in a world where Destiny 2 is still relevant.

3rd Column Perks

  • Grave Robber
  • Beacon Rounds
  • Replenishing Aegis
  • Immovable Object
  • Keep Away
  • Clown Cartridge
  • Field Prep

4th Column Perks

  • Golden Tricorn
  • Demolitionist
  • Lead From Gold
  • Deconstruct
  • Attrition Orbs
  • High-Impact Reserves
  • Close to Melee

And that’s everything I have to say about the god roll for the Albedo Wing in Destiny 2’s The Dawning event 2023. If you’ve got some spare resources near the end of the event, and after you’ve gotten the god rolls for the other weapons, you might consider acquiring Albedo Wing rolls. Who knows? You might like it despite what everyone says. Good luck and have fun out there, Guardians.
