Supermassive Games has released a new 60-second trailer for Directive 8020, offering a fast-paced overview of its upcoming cinematic horror experience ahead of its May 12, 2026 launch.
Debuting during the Galaxies Showcase, the trailer delivers a final pre-launch briefing on the dangers awaiting players aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia, where a mission to secure humanity’s future spirals into a fight for survival.
Directive 8020 follows a crew sent to Tau Ceti f as Earth faces collapse, only for their journey to take a deadly turn after crash-landing on an unknown world. The crew soon discovers they are being hunted by a hostile alien organism capable of perfectly mimicking its prey, creating a tense atmosphere built around paranoia and mistrust.
The game evolves the studio’s established formula by introducing more active survival gameplay alongside its cinematic storytelling. Players will need to evade threats in real time, rely on stealth mechanics, and carefully manage movement and sound to avoid detection. The alien threat can disguise itself as any crew member, turning every interaction into a potential life-or-death decision.
For the first time in a Dark Pictures-style experience, Directive 8020 includes a story tree system that maps out player decisions, along with Turning Points, allowing players to revisit key choices. Alternatively, players can commit fully to their decisions in a survival-focused mode where outcomes are permanent.
The game stars Lashana Lynch as Brianna Young, the Cassiopeia’s pilot, placing players at the center of a high-stakes narrative driven by choice and consequence.
Directive 8020 supports both single-player and local multiplayer, including a Movie Night mode for up to five players, where participants take turns controlling different characters. A five-player online multiplayer mode is also planned as a free post-launch update.
Pre-orders are now available across all platforms and include a free Deluxe Edition upgrade, featuring cosmetic packs, collectibles, a digital soundtrack, and an artbook for a limited time.
Directive 8020 launches on May 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
