Rockstar Games may have hinted that a physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI is planned following the game’s launch, according to a report from VICE.
The speculation comes after Rockstar confirmed that the initial physical release of Grand Theft Auto VI will include a redemption code rather than a game disc inside the box, prompting criticism from players hoping to own a traditional physical copy.
According to VICE, customers who contacted Rockstar Support about the issue received a response stating:
“Please note that the current pre-order is indeed just for a digital-only update; you will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months.”

The wording of the support response has led many fans to believe Rockstar intends to release a true physical edition at a later date. However, Rockstar has not issued an official public announcement clarifying its plans, and it remains unclear whether the response refers specifically to a disc-based version or simply another boxed release.
Adding to the speculation, Polish gaming outlet PPE.pl reports that a disc version of Grand Theft Auto VI could launch in December 2026, citing insider Graczdari. The same source previously claimed in March that the game’s launch edition would not include a disc—a report that was later proven accurate when Rockstar revealed its physical release plans.
Despite the insider’s previous accuracy, the reported December release window has not been confirmed by Rockstar. Likewise, the support email cited by VICE has not been publicly verified as an official company statement.
For now, Rockstar has only confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch physical edition will contain a digital download code. Whether a disc-based version follows later remains unconfirmed.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
