The Lost Astrolabe is one of the side quests that players can complete in Hogwarts Legacy. Grace Pinch-Smedley wants to find out if her grandfather’s lost astrolabe is somewhere under the Black Lake and if it can still be recovered.

How to unlock The Lost Astrolabe Side Quest
To unlock the The Lost Astrolabe side quest, you must first complete the Tomes and Tribulations main quest.
The Lost Astrolabe Objectives
- Speak with the student on the dock
- Dive in the Black Lake and find the astrolabe
- Return to Grace
The Lost Astrolabe side quest Walkthrough
After completing the required quest, head to the dock south of Hogwarts to find Grace Pinch-Smedley and start the quest.
Speak with the student on the dock
Talk to Grace Pinch-Smedley at the dock. She will need help on retrieving her grandfather’s astrolabe which she suspects has sunken somewhere in the Black Lake.
Dive in the Black Lake and find the astrolabe
Take a swim in the Black Lake and head just northeast of the dock where you’ll find the quest marker. You should see some ripples in the marked area of the lake. Approach these ripples to dive into the water and obtain whatever item is underneath. One of them has the Pinch-Smedley Family Astrolabe.
Return to Grace
Head back to Grace to hand the astrolabe back to her. You can choose to hand the astrolabe back to her for a price, and Grace will give you 20 Galleons, or you can just hand it back to her for free.

After completing the quest, you will be rewarded with the following:
